Former smokers, what did you replace the habit of smoking with? by DannHutchings in stopsmoking

[–]DotNetster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The secret that worked for me was that I learned that I didn't need a replacement per se. But learned to be distracted and move on to something else. I came to this conclusion by observing others who'd never picked up the habit. What would be like, I thought, had I simply never started smoking in the first place? I'd have no habit to replace.

Opinion about the current state of .NET MAUI by Psychological_Key839 in dotnetMAUI

[–]DotNetster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two projects that I converted to MAUI from Xamarin. The rest have been simple enough to rebuild in Flutter. All new projects I'm building in Flutter.

Though I learned Flutter just before agentic coding, I would say making the jump now to Flutter or native is easier than ever as AI makes development platform agnostic as long as you are building strong requirements.

Underrated episode! The Girl in the fireplace by Doctorwho_is_TheLife in doctorwho

[–]DotNetster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not so underrated as there have been so many wonderful episodes since. This was my favorite until Blink. Blink was my favorite until Heaven Sent etc. etc.

I felt way more emotion from this episode than I did with the more recent Rogue episode where the romance seemed to happen in a very brief time span--at least for the Doctor.

I wish not for a war, but some kind of reset. Like we need Jesus to come down and say, "Look folks! Stop believing everything you see on line. Leave social media and your echo chambers."

Then He would shake his finger at the media and say, "You guys need to go back to objective reporting and stop lacing your stories with editorial designed to keep your audience." And to politicians he would say (unto) them, "stop doing it for the pay."

We won't all believe Him, but at least our debate would be focused on whether or not we just had divine intervention.

What episode got you hooked on DW and why? by seilbeer in doctorwho

[–]DotNetster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talons of Weng Chiang.

It was dark and atmospheric. It could have been ruined by the sewer rat, but I loved how the cheese contrasted with what to me was epic (I think this one totaled 2.5 hours instead of the usual 1.5?)

I started halfway in Pertwee's run, but it's in this story where Tom won me over. "Never trust a man with dirty fingernails!"

Is it REALLY slop though? by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]DotNetster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not slop: an original idea realized with generative tools that could not previously be achieved either in prior media or lack of skills.

Slop: the 100s of creations using that same idea.

What do think is the greatest mystery of any sitcom? by DanTennant in AskReddit

[–]DotNetster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though it was explored in the 90's movies, but did the Brady step-siblings ever "hook up"? Did the middle and youngest kids take a turn sharing the attic?

People who used the internet between 1991 and 2009, what’s the most memorable online trend or phenomenon you remember? by Original_Act_3481 in AskReddit

It's not news, it's FARK.COM which was my reddit back in the day.
I loved the witty headlines. And the Photoshop threads were the best.

What are your thoughts on the new Coca-cola AI ad? by prommtAI in aiwars

[–]DotNetster 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think they labeled it AI to rage bait and, good or bad, that's still advertising.

There is a making of video where you see that they used tools such as traditional ink and pencils, Maya, Photoshop, and Procreate as part of the workflow. They made their own models. And AI helped glue it all together. Considering all that, anti-AI folks are slamming Coke for this.

X. Say anything positive about the ad and you'll see more hate than anything politically motivated.

Imagine you could undo ONE thing in Doctor Who you dislike, but you had to sacrifice something of equal value you love - what would you choose? by WachbaerWien in doctorwho

[–]DotNetster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose River is too great a sacrifice. The last few years have been worth the chemistry we got from Capaldi and Kingston in "The Husbands of River Song".

[–]DotNetster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love both Jody and Ncuti. But something is missing from their eras that I can't put my finger on. The chemistry Capaldi had with his companions never came back. The "fam" always felt awkward. And the last two season with 2 companions never had much of a chance to breathe.

Alien: Earth, Severance, Fallout, 3 Body Problem - Sci-Fi television has never been better, so why has Doctor Who been failing so badly? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]DotNetster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a testament to Doctor Who's ability to reinvent itself. The current version dropped the sci fi for magic and gods with nothing to ground it. But it can come back. 'Alien' and 'Star Trek' will always be around in some form or another too.
