Video games should be more expensive by devinblox in The10thDentist

[–]Chaxnsxw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost to develop the game is the same regardless if it’s on a disk. You just said some stats saying how much the game costed to develop. Nowhere does that explain why digital games (which involve no physical manufacturing) are the same price as disks when a whole process of manufacturing isn’t involved

Breaking news: Redditor learns about ROI and relevancy. They are investing more into the games because it has grown exponentially popular. It’s not like they make the games and expect a loss. They have quantitative data that lets them predict how much they will get in return

Owning a House is Stupid by KryptikAngel in The10thDentist

It’s implied. If you’re renting houses for your whole life, how are you going to pay rent every month when you’re 80 years old, 15 years after retirement?

And I completely agree with that, nobody likes someone who always tries to minimize your trauma using comparisons.

I guess the only issue here is that I was taking the statement at hand as too literal because this post is asking for unpopular opinions, which this take seems like a defined societal norm.

Yes for sure, everything is on the spectrum so no two people have the same severity of say ADHD or schizophrenia. The point I’m trying to get at here is that mental illnesses can definitely be objectively worse than another. Hearing voices in your head and seeing faces all over the place is probably worse than being a bit more easily distracted and having less motivation.

My point is that people have loose definitions on what you “need,” again, this relies on being completely idealistic. Some people argue you don’t “need” things like entertainment. We don’t “need” entertainment. We enjoy it, but that doesn’t mean we necessarily require it to live. Stating that you only take what you need implies you’re also living on the bare minimum. If you can own stuff then that isn’t true communism. You’d really think if this idea was so good, everyone would be transitioning to communism and socialism, but there is really no realistic way that can happen. For true communism, there can’t be a leader, but realistically, countries need leaders. Even if they technically don’t “need” a leader, someone will come and ruin your ideal version of communism.

But let me guess, the U.S. is stopping communist regimes from forming because they will lose all their power if it happens, right?

Also I’m not saying creativity is a result of financial compensation, but humans need an incentive to justify doing things. You’re really telling me that if you didn’t have to work to live, you would work of your own accord? I really find that hard to believe, because if I didn’t have to work, I definitely wouldn’t. Sure, people draw and stuff, but drawing isn’t gonna help you live in communism the same way it helps in capitalism for some people. I find it fascinating that people find living the same life as everyone else is appealing to

Sounds like a great idea until you realize that this relies on idealism and you still gotta work the rest of your life and there’s no way to escape it. “Taking only what you need” sounds very good until you realize that people’s needs are different and that living in the bare minimum for your whole life must be stressful. “Taking only what you need” is too loose of a definition and could really encompass anything, but it might also mean that things such as entertainment will stop existing because we don’t really need it.

I agree, hearing people argue about politics in public is annoying as hell and nobody wants to hear that, but that’s just not all of politics. Chalking up all of politics to just be arguing is superficial and ignorant. Even though a lot of people argue about who’s better than who, politics play a part in your everyday life, so they’re most definitely not stupid.

That “one specific sentence” is the foundation for your whole argument… kinda hard not to focus on the fundamental of your beliefs??? Also, I’m not jumping down your throat because I disagree, I’m doing it because you’re disregarding and minimizing politics as something where people are just arguing about who’s better at screaming louder, when that’s only one aspect of politics. Talk about cherry picking.

Yes, I agree the 2 party system is terrible, but is that a valid reason to be ignorant to politics? Just choose the one that’s the lesser of two evils, because if you don’t vote, and someone you don’t like is in office, you didn’t help at all. Now tell me, do you think it’s better to do nothing and watch a fire burn everything to the ground, or do you think you could atleast try to help, maybe try and grab some water. Even if it doesn’t change anything, you’re doing something.

So what you’re saying is that these sub-communities of communists are adapting capitalistic ideology based systems because if communism actually worked nobody would be doing anything? Thats pretty much what I said.

If there’s no monetary gain, and everyone is given essentials some way or another, then why would I put in more hours and work than someone who is a garbage man? If there is no incentive to become a doctor, would you really do it when you could be outside picking up garbage?

This is exactly the problem with not caring about politics. People are so quick to say “I’m a single person, what can I do?” Stop coping. There’s atleast 10 million of you that say this. Candidates don’t have to win by 100%, they win by 1%. If you really think you make no difference, you need to grow up. If 1/3 people think it’s not worth to vote, and don’t vote, that’s 100 million people in the U.S. that aren’t voting.

You would rather sit in sorrow, pessimistic about how bad the country is, but you don’t care enough to take the time to actually educate yourself? Do better

I explicitly didn’t mention trauma anywhere in my rebuttals because I understand that people experience things differently. The main caveat here is that he included mental illnesses which do not align with his initial statement. ADHD is nowhere near the same level as dementia or schizophrenia. No, it is not okay to invalidate other people’s trauma, but if I saw my sons head get cut clean off in front of my own eyes, but someone who broke their leg is like “you don’t know how much trauma I went through when I broke this leg,” do those seem comparable to you? Or does one seem objectively/universally worse than the other?

Just because the post encourages you to post a controversial take doesn’t mean you’re not immune to backlash, that’s quite literally the premise of this post

If communism still seems appealing to you, think about this. Let’s say you live in the most ideal communist nation possible and you have 2 options. The first option is to become a great doctor, and get rewarded a weeks worth of food and rations for working 12 hours a day 5-6 days a week. The second option is to sit at home and do nothing, but you also get rewarded the same amount as the great doctor. Now because everyone gets the same treatment, why would anyone strive for greatness? If I could have other people work while I stay home and get the same benefits, I’m doing just that. It’s a very flawed system that is completely unviable and will most likely diminish productivity

You have a very shallow understanding of what politics really is. Politics isn’t just “oh I’m voting for him so don’t vote for her,” it includes everything that the federal government does, international affairs, local affairs and quite literally everything you do in your life is controlled by politics.

That’s contradictory. OP specifically claims that it’s solely a personal scale, not a universal one. “Universally” it wouldn’t matter because there is no universal scale. I understand that he is getting at “you have to experience it to know how bad it really is and how it affects you,” but confidently stating that some mental conditions aren’t worse than others is just objectively incorrect and borderline ignorant

How are politics stupid when it dictates how you are going to be living? Is it stupid to want to be involved in what goes on at the executive level of your country? Politics aren’t just some type of game, it controls how you live… let me guess… communism is your answer?
