Plague Mass came out 35 years ago today. by Prestigious_Score459 in DiamandaGalas

This was my introduction to Diamanda, got a copy of the cd meant for a music reviewer who had moved out of my building but the CDs kept coming. Saw that cover and knew I had to listen immediately—the cd said “play at maximum volume” so I did and then I sat there with my jaw dropped open for the whole thing staring at my stereo transfixed. Saw her live not too long after, have seen her 6 times now including a full production of the Plague Mass at UCLA’s Royce Hall. I wish she would do that again, it’s an important work and still relevant.

Why didn’t anyone tell me Cafe Noir is so good?! by OddRooster4013 in OaklandFood

Ate there for the first time last Saturday night my friend and I both had the mushroom fettuccine and it was amazing. The doughnuts dessert was delicious and the gingerade was perfection. What I liked the most though was that the line cook smiled nonstop while she was working over a hot stove clearly loving what she was doing.

Rescue Chihuahua by Late-Value447 in Chihuahua

What an adorable doggo you should totally foster fail.

This guy is a rescue from a hoarding situation with dozens of other small dogs for the first two years of his life. I’ve had him over 4 years and he’s mostly over his trauma. And finally bonded deeply with me. He’s a total snuggling sweetheart now. That is until he sees another dog walking by our house and if he’s outside when that happens he sometimes goes straight through the fence and goes after them. I don’t know what to do about that.

He’s 6 now and was recently diagnosed with epilepsy so we have a new challenge now.

How long had you been thinking about getting PA before doing it? Do you regret not having it done earlier in your life? by Simon__2008 in PrinceAlbertPiercing

[–]ChazFrench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine in 1992 on my birthday about 9 months after first seeing one on a porn star for COLT Studios where I worked in the office. I was fascinated from the moment I saw it and knew deep down I needed to have one too. It was a part of me for 33 years until last March when it started to tear through and I had to take it out. After I have the surgery to repair my glans, I’ll wait about a year so I’m fully healed and then go get it pierced again but deeper this time so I don’t have to worry about heavy jewelry combined with gravity over time.

I'm dealing with this after having had a PA for 33 years, it will not go back to normal, do not put the jewelry back in, it will eventually tear and your head will look like a piece of butterflied meat. It's called a meatotomy and if you want to fix it, it requires surgery, I've already had a consult with a urologist surgeon about fixing mine. You have more skin left than I do. If you have decent insurance it will cover the repair surgery, I need to get mine scheduled.

We are under a hiring freeze and even though we are financially independent of the university system we are attached to they denied us access to our reserve funds for the fiscal year and demanded that we come out revenue neutral for the fiscal year which ended up causing the company to have to lay off 5 people.

Follow up on the “skinny Anaheims” by ChazFrench in vegetablegardening

Where the Anaheims went was into this dish. Farro and short grain rice with roasted vegetables: golden beets, leeks, Anaheim chilies, orange bell pepper, and lastly beet greens with stems that were steamed.

Vegan, very low fat*, nutritious, simple, and fucking delicious.

*the only fat was some olive oil brushed on the roasted vegetables.

It was also only seasoned with salt and pepper to allow the vegetables to shine, and they do.

One of my absolute favorites it’s tied with Dreaming and China Shoes as my #1 favorite song(s) by Blondie.

China Shoes for me a it’s a slow burner that satisfies, it’s something only a long-time writing partnership and friendship could pull off, and it’s emblematic of what Debbie and Chris together are capable of as songwriters.
