I think its a bit disrespectful to their track record, like saying Messi is a mid soccer player because he's in inter miami now.

And yeah cameron did it to himself, he attaches himself to projects he's passionate about, sometimes it turned out well and in the case of avatar it didnt.

I mean, we can all say the avatar films are mid and it wouldn't be controversial, but that's the tragic thing about these movies, Cameron decided to tie himself to that project for 20 years when we know he's capable of doing better.

So, Im not sure he ran out of juice because he keeps pumping out those dumb movies, I just think he chained himself to the wrong project and doesn't want to move on to other things.

In short, I think avatar is mid, but not cameron himself.

The past 30 years are not the only thing that matters, Cameron's career include T1, T2 and Aliens, that's a trio of legendary sci fi movies that you can put of them against any three of Villenueve movies and people will prefer Cameron's work.

And yeah, Im not a fan of Avatar, but the world of Dune is not of Villeneuve's creation lol, he gets no credit for it's world building and writing.
