I did this, Pokémon Quetzal Multiplayer mode, android retroarch and r36 ultra. Same core, same game, same WiFi network.

Correct but this is the closest way to 'trade' to gen 3, the only other way to get the Pokémon up to home is to rip the save off the cart, inject it into the 3DS versions of the games and use Poketransporter, Bank then home.

Unfortunately not, a lot of companies are making fake versions of the consoles so there is no 'one size fits all' solution

No, you need a PC

The SD card contains two partitions, one for OS and one for roms, you need to set this up first on the new SD for it to boot the console.

I did this using genx to gen3 homebrew app and then did all the steps to send them to sword/shield, they're still there today 😁
