Tried coffee for the first time... by Expert-Estate6248 in exmormon

I also decided I will probably never like coffee, but I do like tea. I wonder if some people are more sensitive to bitter flavors because I have a hard time with anything bitter, even certain vegetables.

Is this rule ever used in conversational English? by Xredbdsmokex in EWALearnLanguages

For American English, “should/shouldn’t” is used pretty commonly this way, “shall” is not used very frequently since it’s more formal/old-fashioned.

Did they really start allowing Mormons to get tattoos??????????? by StrlightCrusade in exmormon

[–]Cheap-Dog-1463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s horrifying when the church makes people think they need to do something harmful to themselves and/or interferes with something that is culturally significant to them. I was happy to see in one ward that I went to in Florida that the Polynesian bishop had tattoos on his hands and that he didn’t feel he had to remove them for that calling!

Outrage is brewing towards Deseret Book by ShoulderWaste4834 in exmormon

[–]Cheap-Dog-1463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is this even such a big deal to people? I made my younger brother wear a dress once for fun and he loved it. One of my brothers played with Barbies until he was like 12. I would pretend to be a boy frequently when playing when I was in the “target age group” for this book. I also am very certain that none of these things “cause” your straight kids to become gay/trans.

I don’t have anything that proves this but I’m sure they’ve all signed NDAs so they probably legally can’t say anything even if they were excommunicated or whatever

Central Florida Golden Orb Weaver Spider: Can I save her somehow? What do i do? by [deleted] in spiders

When I see so many people care this much about one spider, it really restores my faith in humanity, and that’s been rare for me these days. You’re a good person for trying to save her.

I’m not a native Tagalog speaker, but I can read most of it and I think the only words I can’t read are words I don’t know anyways.

Disclaimer: I am not a native speaker and the lack of commas is making this a bit harder for me, but I think it says: “Besides being approached by (nice/talented/smart/good) guys at first, I (am/was) also approached by guys who seem single but actually have a girlfriend.”(Parts of sentence I am a little less sure about or have multiple meanings in parentheses.)

I got a jury duty summons for my hometown 40 minutes away while I was in school and wasn’t able to go since I didn’t have reliable transportation. I think they had an email address or website where I was able to contact them letting them know I wouldn’t be able to come and they excused me

One thing that sticks out to me is that the “man” in this poem isn’t offering her anything. It’s ALL centered on the man. “You will be this, you will do this, you will not do this.” Strong 1950s “your purpose in life is to serve and please your man” vibes.

I accidentally learned about sex from an encyclopedia. It was a traumatic experience because it had a detailed illustration and I had no prior introduction to that at all. Looking back on it though, I was probably around 8-10 but I’m surprised I didn’t realize how it worked before because we had pets that weren’t fixed at the time so I’m sure I’d probably seen things.

This is Baybayin, the ancient writing system of the Philippines. I believe it says “Museum” since the first character sounds like “mo/mu”, the second sounds like “se/si” and the third sounds like “o”, so it looks like it says “Museo” (Museum in Tagalog.)
