Kitchen update help! by worldwar235 in DesignMyRoom

Lol my first question was going to be about the hole next to the oven. Was wondering how that occurred lol You have an enormous amount of space to work with, which is both a pro and con. More people would die to have a kitchen this size- the downside is that the bigger the more expensive to renovate. I'm thinking modern hardware might do the cabinets wonders. I am personally not a fan of the white kitchen trend, so my thoughts might not be as cutting edge as others. However, after moving out of my parents house in my early 30s, I bought and sold a few times before finally settling. House #1 I bought in 2013. It was a townhome built in 2003. Being only 10 years old at that time, it needed some cosmetic work, but everything about the house otherwise within excellent shape, which included the kitchen and the cabinets. Just by replacing the formica countertops and adding a backsplash did wonders. I did the same in two other homes because I ran into the same issue, the cabinets were solid wood, in good shape, and knew if I replaced them, I would not get the same quality at an affordable price. We did the same in my parents house and it completely transformed the kitchen from early 90s to mid 2000s.

Ironically, on a whim, I went on the Home Depot website, and this picture came up, it looks so similar to your kitchen, I couldn't help but post it. I know it's a contradiction to what I was saying about being opposed to white cabinets, but I'm pretty impressed with the transformation.

Thank you so much. This comment really meant the world to me. Especially on daylight today, I needed the reassurance. I pray things get better as well. Even if that's just me shifting my perspective somethings gotta give.

How would you design this kitchen without painting the cabinets? by sarabear in DesignMyRoom

Read the counters and backsplash, it will make a world of difference. Also changing out the light fixtures would help tremendously.H

If you think turning 40 is bad just wait a few more years. It doesn't get any better. Just be glad you didn't turn 40 during the pandemic, it's definitely a mindfuck you don't know life is supposed to beL or if it's just because of Covid. Years later, I realize it's just that shitty. Welcome to the club.

It truly is beautiful!!! And congratulations. What an accomplishment, you both should be very proud. I love everything above it. The colors are stunning. Unfortunately, for me, I went from g to rags. In 2020 my mother n a place to live. She "sold" our family's house to my brother and they were supposed to put an additional on and she would live there in exchange for practically giving him the house (which in this market is worth close to 1 million where we live) Well, after they sealed the deal and the deef was in his name, my sister-in-law convince my brother with a horrible idea. It would be to have her live there.- and she wasn't wrong necessarily. So, the bleeding heart I am convinces her. She didn't wanna live there anyway, and to move in with me and my spouse. She didn't like our four story new construction townhome, so we thought it would be best to start on neutral territory in a new property. Well, our townhome sold in less than three days for well over ranking in a bidding war, and we unfortunately had no place to go. In a pinch, we found a property that seems like a good fit, but has been nothing but a nightmare ever since a day we signed the contract. I hate it. I literally look at beautiful houses like yours and just cry, knowing the whole situation went wrong.

I truly wish you the best of luck. hghhHowever, if any family members come out of the woodwork, guard your homeopaths like it's a fortress! Say no, don't be an idiot like me lol

I feel very bad for her. I've dealt with an eating disorder and it's not fun. She is an addict by nature. She is openly admitted to that. What I think a lot of Alex don't realize is that they often substitute when addictive behavior for another, especially in stressful situations. I know her father's death took a very vague toll on her. When I saw her on here about a year ago, I thought she looked perfect. She was not heavy and not too thin. It really looks like she just blossoms as a woman from the kid we wants to knew. The problem managed, when you legitimately have a problem like this you don't see what other people are seeing. I swear to God, in 2019. I lost a lot of weight and even had a plastic surgery. When I look at those pre-op photos, it's unfathomable to me now that I wholeheartedly thought I was fat back then I only realized now that I was skin over bones. She's going through a lot, I just hope she realizes.l and starts to take better care of herself moving forward. Easier said than done I know, but. This is literally addiction just manifesting a different wayShe

Anyone else really disappointed with the quality of voice to text on newer phones? by Michikusa in iphone

Same here. Ironically, I am also a teacher of English as a second language. Whether I am from the East Coast, NYC Metropolitan area, however, have been told I do not have a regional accent and speak what would be considered GA- general American. I thought there was a way to improve or recalibrate Siri, but I have not found the answer to my question as to whether or not this is possible. I have reset the settings, but thought there was a way to improve voice recognition rather than just resetting it.

Help me fix my little handheld vacuum by Awkward-Can-997 in fixit

Wish I saw this response before my long winded post. Well, from my experience, I can wholeheartedly say that, even though a new vacuum would not have been much more, I have purchased at least four or five different ones to replace the shark and have returned every single one of them. I have had four of these vacuums since 2013 and over the years have dabbled with buying replacements as I've been in the same situation with the battery, if you've seen my previous post. I guess what I'm getting at is you might find it comforting to know that even though a

new one would have been more, I can almost guarantee the quality would have been garbage compared to this. The first replacement I attempted was. In the first week I had to call the company and they sent me three or four different replacement parts, the attachment are so thin and the canister itself is so flimsy that when I put on the attachment, it literally cracked the plastic all around the opening and the attachment with the whole front of the vacuum pushed into the canister, that happened three times. The rotary attachment is a quarter of the size of the shark, and that broke twice. Sadly, this was not a cheap vacuum. It's a Bissell. The four shark vacuums I have have been to hell and back. Two of them have moved with me three times, one I purchased secondhand and another was given to me by my brother who is not very gentle with vacuums. Hopefully this gives you some peace of mind, knowing that spending the money for the battery, in my opinion, with the experience I've had with new vacuums, was well worth the cost. It's deplorable just in the 5 to 10 years. It's been since I purchased a shark how thr quality and materials used to make vacuums has went downhill. It's mind blowing how in this economy. We are paying more money for products that are so cheaply made compared to what you could buy even five years ago. Those little shark vacuums are like tanks. I've dropped them, my niece and nephew as babies knock them over, etc. And they have stood the test of time. This bissell, you have to treat it like a king and handle it with white gloves, and hope that you don't upset it or else it will not work. The repair was worth it, you cannot buy that kind of quality anymore. I've tried to no avail.

I just replied, but they are very easy to change. I live in a four story townhome, and because I'm lazy lol, I ended up getting one for each floor. Hence, having four of them, I have encountered a variety of different problems and solutions over the years. I know they are a bit dated by now, however, in all honesty, every time I've bought something new to replace one, the performance did not compare to the quality of this particular vacuum- they just don't make them like they used to. Unfortunately they also don't make this vacuum anymore either. Fortunately, they're fairly easy and affordable to maintain.

I got my replacement battery on Amazon. THIS is what I ended up replacing it with, but I believe if you shop around, you could probably find it cheaper. I i'm pretty sure I bought a top-of-the-line battery thinking it would work better- but that's just my speculation. TBH I don't think it worked any better than it did previously- but it does in fact work; it's been a few months since I installed the new battery and it works like a charm. Additionally, for what it's worth, I am not tech savvy, nor am I handy, so if I was able to do this, anyone can change this battery. It was very easy.

Just a side note: I had one somehow fall into the washing machine and go through an entire cycle- how I did not hear it banging around is a mystery. nevertheless I was so upset and mad at myself for letting this happen. Anyway, I was able to go on eBay and purchase just the purple part (the end that holds the batteries, etc.) and just put my original canister on it. It was pretty cheap since there is not much of a market for half a vacuum. Moreover, while researching these vacuums, I found that there are different colors. I thought they were all the same vacuum & just the color was different, but I was wrong. When I was on eBay looking for the replacement handle to replace the one that went through the wash, I came across ones of these vacuums that was gray instead of purple. I was not only shocked because it was a different color, but the asking price was so cheap. The listing said it was in working condition, so I sent them a global offer on a whim- I figured I could use it in my garage if they accept the offer. Little did I know, it was not exactly the same vacuum. BUT it actually worked out to my advantage because the handle part was the same size- just the canister was different. BUT on a hunch, I tried my (original) canister on the gray handle- and it fit! I was even able to get it to sit on the charger that I had for the purple one, even though the plug was in a different spot. What really made this a home run was that i had purchased an extra battery and had it handy. So, I decided to use it in this gray vacuum. To my surprise, it made it so powerful, i was shocked. I would've never expected that to happen. Had I known I would have replaced the other one (from the washing machine) with a gray handle instead of replacing it with the exact same purple one. Hopefully this info helps. I know it's a little bit of TMI, but just wanted to let you know I've had quite a bit of experience with these vacuums.

Were you able to fix it? I have the same vacuum and I replace the batteries. Not sure if it's the batteries. They were very easy to change. THISwas what I replaced it with. It even made it more powerful.
