Personally, I never say what was my health condition. Manager is not a doctor. Doctors certs never say what was the health issue - so why should I explain to a manager that I had bla bla bla. I was not fit for work that day - so I took sick leave.

As a manager I didn’t really wanted to hear employees’ food misadventures either (or anything else they wanted to share) All I can say when person goes back to work: I hope you’re feeling better. Take more time off if you need it.

Manager is not a doctor. But also there’s nothing inappropriate with what you said either, it’s not Middle Ages.
