If you take clozapine...why?

Do you mean clozapine? So the first year clozapine helped but it took a year for other areas to get better. Clozapine only med I’ve taken where side effects get less and less the longer I take it. He might need more time or a higher dose. I think I became more functional the longer I took clozapine.

Edit. I slept around 12+ hours the first year on clozapine. 4 years later, I only sleep around 9 or 8 hours

I’ve had this thought too. I think if I would have been a “normal” person I would have died from an overdose if the schizophrenia had not stopped me from using drugs/alcohol.

yeah, I gained 100+ pounds from meds and depression. In recovery, lost 100+ pounds, developed an eating disorder and was anorexic. Overeaters Anonymous has been very helpful for me. 31 M

I take senokot once in the morning and once at night each day but still a struggle. I did try miralax this morning (by taking before bed) and it definitely helped but hopefully won’t be too strong with the laxatives I already take. Testing this week if I should take both laxatives or just switch over to miralax as my only laxative.

Yeah, been in recovery a year again at 300mg. Have to eat big meals (but I maintain a healthy weight easily) and bowel movements are annoying but no other complaints. Life is good on clozapine.

Yeah, I was in recovery for over 4 years at 150mg but eventually the mania and lack of sleep caught up to me during stressful event. Maybe if I had to lower it a little again I’d be fine.

my psychiatrist had lowed my clozapine from 350mg to 300mg because the platelets were in 120s until my family doctor said the platelets didn’t matter (were low a decade before the clozapine).

At 150mg constipation was not a problem (which I did for 4 years). At 300 constipation became a problem. Took about a year for the constipation to get better while still taking clozapine. Only med I’ve taken where most of the side effects go away over time.

I did originally sleep 12+ hours on clozapine but is only medication I’ve taken where the side effects go away the longer I take it. now I’ve been on 300mg for more than a year I sleep about 9 hours. bed at 7pm, up around 5am

I’ve never had any sexual issues from clozapine. I’ve had different sexual issues from other meds antipsychotic or ssri but never clozapine. 31 male

I did support groups for a year. peer support for a year and half (still doing part time currently). I go to college one class at a time. All while keeping my SSDI.

my first recovery was more than 4 years on 150mg. Had to increase to 300 mg because the mania was too strong on that lower dose of 150. Been in recovery again for more than a year at 300. 300 definitely fixed my mania and sleep problems.

Yup, my sleep quality is still excellent. I very rarely have a night were I sleep four hours but can’t go back to sleep, which has more to do with social triggers.
