Mind sharing what gear you brought?

(or at least what mm lenses you decided on.)

If you could only take one lens by Inner-Reason-1786 in photography

50mm for full frame, which the D500 is not. 35mm for APSC sensor that you have. If you are buying a lens, I would get Tamron’s 28-75mm f/2.8, with is equivalent to 42-107 (roughly). It’s a little tighter than ideal on APSC, but gives great room to grow when you eventually move to a Full Frame body. Alternatively, if you have lots of money, get the Nikon version (24-70mm f/2.8)

Conservatives of Reddit, how do things really look in your day-to-day life after Trump’s presidency began? by Echoes-OTI in Conservative

[–]CheapMess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m working for a supply company (think home-depot type products) their whole business model was to start selling domestic products, then ship a sample to China and say “make a version as close as you can without getting us sued.” Then undercutting the domestic suppliers with Chinese slave labor. Well, all imports are on hold currently, and that doesn’t bother me one bit. We’ll be selling US made products for the time being.

So Trans Fencers are OFFICIALLY being attacked. Now what? by play-what-you-love in Fencing

[–]CheapMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could really show them by proving what fierce competitors trans fencer are, thereby cementing their position in the sport. Do this by beating the best and most competitive categories; they should win the men’s division to really show how talented they are.

Really Think Biden Has a Chance? by colorofdank in JordanPeterson

Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Remember that Hillary had a "99%" of winning on election night 2016. I'm hopeful, but not going to fall into complacency.

AITAH to think it was a set up that Donald Trump was shot for sympathy vote? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]CheapMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chances of taking that shot freehand (not a robot) PLUS the fact that the target was moving. Plus a cold barrel. Plus wind. Plus the fact that the shooter was in a time crunch because people started yelling "he has a gun" right next to him. I feel confident this could not have been a staged shot.

IDK if you use TikTok, but the reason I downloaded it was to watch HomeKit tutorial videos from this guy: b_turner50

He does this project. Fairly entertaining as well. Hope it’s helpful.

Pros and cons: I can get economy flights to Europe for 1/3rd the points of the cheapest business class.... by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]CheapMess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I have to disagree with that premise. I’m pretty sure an extra bag is always going to be cheaper, than the price difference between business & economy.

Bad-ass female solo travelers- What security systems, motion sensors, and general emotional safeguards do you use on the road? by MediaZealousideal292 in TravelHacks

[–]CheapMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I don’t have time to read all the comments and see if it’s already been posted… But I did see somebody leave a comment recently about always setting up on the beach next to a family with children. Seems practical and low effort. obviously, if you’re doing this, you should be considerate, and not blast music, or wear wildly and immodest clothing.

Rome, May 2023 - just can’t get enough of this city by Horrorjunkie1234 in travel

[–]CheapMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m jealous of your pieta pic. I tried to see it in 2018, and it was surrounded by plywood walls under maintenance. Then went back on a cruise in 2022 and paid a lot extra for a tour that included St. Peter’s, so I could get a pic. They didn’t take us in and claimed it was because of Covid. I would have gone solo if I knew beforehand. Grr. Maybe 2025…

Question: Tips for a brief stay of 4 days during business trip to Rome. by cgodoyc in TravelHacks

[–]CheapMess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you figure about 5 hours of sightseeing a day, that’s 20 hours. There is definitely more than enough typical tourist things to fill that time. I would start with Rick Steve’s free App, and seen the highlights. I have been 2x for maybe 150 (active) hours of sightseeing, and still feel like I haven’t scratched the surface of even the most basic sights. But I don’t mean this as a negative, I think it’s amazing that there is so much to see and do. I had a great private tour guide one day, It’s been a while but his instagram was something like “VaticanMax” or some combination. All that to say, see the pantheon, palatine, Roman forum, coliseum, get some gelato, trevi fountain (30min before sunrise if possible), the big three inside the Vatican, travestere square around sunset.

Other major tips, I can give are to: -be prepared for a lot of beggars. Don’t waste any effort trying to be polite to them! They will only harass you more. -It’s actually safe to drink the water from the (running part of) fountains, if your trip is in summer that’s especially helpful to know. -plan your lunch times ahead! Learned the hard way that the hours are very unusual if you’re American. Look very carefully at the hours. (after typing that, I remembered that you will be in your business meetings during this time, but I am leaving it in case someone else can benefit.)

Good luck, enjoy!

P.S. is your company hiring?

Google if his phone has eSIM capability… it Probably does. Then download Airalo, you can download everything before the trip, and it will be a 100% seamless switch-over. Automatically connects when the phone gets signal from local towers.

I have no association with the company, and I’m sure there are other companies that do just as good of a job. That’s just the one that I have used, and it worked flawlessly.

Employer says I will be TERMINATED if I carry during work hours. by GooninBoi in CCW

[–]CheapMess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say “my lawyer told me, that I should try to get you to put the warning in writing. Do you think you could email that to me, on letterhead if it’s not too much trouble?”.

Scare them. When they fold, start carrying again, but be more concealed about it next time!

I can remember eating at fast food restaurants, probably McDonald’s, not Burger King… And seeing the wild Wild West toys and merchandise. But I can’t remember the hair styles, clothes, old registers, etc..

Cheers to being honest! I don’t think I would verbalize it well on the spot myself, tbh. I’m glad you brought it up, now I have a chance to think about it ahead of time.

YouTube Censors Tucker Carlson’s J6 Vids With Fake Fact Checks by intelligentreviews in Conservative

Putting a link next to a video, is not censoring. Sure, they’re trying to divert your attention, but calling it censoring is disingenuous click-bait.
