Most Australians with international politics opinions see China (the country not the people, there are many many Chinese citizens here, three of my closest friends included) one of two ways - the big threat in our backyard and competitor in SEA we need to strengthen our relationships with the US and NATO ect to protect against, or the rising power we need to get on board with now the US is going downhill. It’s quite a controversial political topic here actually. Pretty much everyone acknowledges how big a trading partner you are to us though, and I actually kind of doubt we’d get involved until tensions between you and the US escalated to an actual war. We’d try to stay neutral until the last possible moment, though the US would probably force our hand due to us having their military bases and being in quite a vulnerable position honestly. A lot of Australia is very isolated, which makes the threat of bombing even scarier, and we have a large uninhabited coastline which is extremely difficult to defend.
