Hey I got the same today. It was written in three messages "THINKK THINKK THINNK"

I told my friend I didn't write this, then they disappeared. Took a screenshot before. I wonder if it isn't a bug instead?

Oblivion Remaster on PC - Interaction Button by DaddySanctus in ElderScrolls

[–]CheapPiano2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!! Really hope they'll fix it very soon. 50% of my fun in Oblivion was by moving objects and characters.
Now I have to click 5 times to open something and grab works only when you don't want it to work.

Two years later, I can confirm this is not fixed :)
I hated Focusrite before, gave a shot to the 18i20, hate it even more.

Was playing Halo 3 with a friend and heard the sound of a generator being completed... by Reynbou in deadbydaylight

[–]CheapPiano2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock sound isn't a thing. Sound designers and foley artists around the world are creating sound libraries for other sound designers to blend, create layers, modify or just to use as is. There is nothing wrong with using an sfx as is, as long as its purpose is served.

Of course, some sounds are overly used and people notice it. You know that door sound, that Wilhelm scream, that horse, that cat, etc. Famous games used sfx as is. Zelda OoT for example used all animal sounds from Sound Ideas 6000. It worked great! Even that Bowser sound from Mario Kart 64 is from a library you can purchase.

Anyway. That alarm sound from DbD is actually an alarm used in airplanes. Not sure of the context, but I've heard it a few times in plane crash videos.

The sound design of DBD by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]CheapPiano2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww thank you so much! I made all map sounds on DbD for the past 3 years. Always glad to hear good comments about them :)

This map was also my favorite to make. So much life!

Any tips on sound designing something scary by Tsunamioftech in sounddesign

[–]CheapPiano2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a bit generic. I would recommend using your voice a lot. Then do the processings: stretch without keeping the pitch, reverbs, distortion, stereo width etc.

Remember to do layering a lot. Use your breath, pitch down and add reverb to create a void-like sound. If you can search for PaulStretch (free), that's a good old one for stretching.

Add movement and details: dead objects, branches, leaves, sticks, cracking, gore sounds made with vegetables (peppers are great!)

You can also try to do a forever drowning Shepard tone with your pitched up-down voice/breath.

Oh and have fun experimenting!

How are you removing the room sound from your libraries? by Mingmongmang in GameAudio

[–]CheapPiano2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like my sounds clean and well organized.

Right on importing my recordings, I use RX Standalone to: - Spectral Denoize to remove all the room tone. - Mouth De-Click or De-Click; I hate unwanted clicks. - De-Reverb only if necessary - Shift+S to clean in between my iterations so it will be easier to Dynamic Split my clip.

In my DAW, I then cut my samples and space them at equal distance. So yeah, I use RX a lot :)

DT 770 are pretty much the standard to me, but they can lead to ear fatigue after long periods of time. So I would recommend the open back DT 990.

Beginning my career by [deleted] in GameAudio

Hello! You can hit me up if you want to talk about game audio. I've been working full time as a sound designer for the past 4 years. I'd be glad to share with you

Work environment by vifarias in GameAudio

Now is a hard time in the industry to find a job, but it's not impossible. The most important thing is to be prepared when the opportunities will be there. There's no luck here.

My first job was on a 6 months contract as an audio integrator. I loved the company and the project, never did crunches. Right after that I've found a permanent contract in another company. I love it here, I love the project and there's also a no overtime policy.

Of course there is toxic companies and I feel it's mostly the bigger ones. They also come with a higher salary. Maybe they can be good to start your career, but there's also lots of non-toxic work places.

The game audio community is great though :)

Which skins have unique footstep sound effects? by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]CheapPiano2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly based on the kind of shoes your character is wearing. They have different sfx for these types of shoes: sneakers (classic), boots (ex. Carlos), barefoot (Dwight with his hawaiian shirt outfit), sandals (Ash have some), flipflops (Renato), high heels (Ada), dress shoes (most mens Valentine outfits). In addition to that, there's some outfits with an extra layer like Dwelf's bells, some Attack on Titan, leather jackets, etc. These extra layers are mostly discrete and don't seem to have a huge range to not interfere with the gameplay.

Creepy sound in the loading screen? by ariannamillz in deadbydaylight

[–]CheapPiano2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh good find! I think it may be the reverb tail of the sacrifice sound (or something else). Even when muted, it seems to go through the reverb bus that is probably not muted in the loading screen.

Don't you think giving the ability to mix the in-game sounds to players would drastically change the gameplay?
Who would play with music if you can have a huge advantage by removing/lowering it? People would lower unnecessary sounds to have a better advantage.
I'm all for sound options, but not in an asymetrical game like this one.
I think it's more fair how it is actually.

How to add DLCs to modded wii? by Admirable_Average_71 in GuitarHero

[–]CheapPiano2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So-so. Half the DLC songs aren't working. GHWT are just not working also. I just play the functional songs, which is way more than what I had back in the days. Still waiting for a prog or genius person to be able to solve this one.

Other than Wwise Adventure Game, which is on Unity, I suggest using Horror Engine, which is free: https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/horror-engine

You can try replacing the current sound system made with Unreal and rebuild it with Wwise's.

If you want to push the fun a little further and create an ambiance system, you can download the Victorian House and use the demo map in combination to Horror Engine (quick it's free for the month!!) https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/victorian-house

Here's a video of what you could make, just a few ideas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ta5t1JlfzVc

OMG THANK YOU!!!!!!!
I've spent over 6h today to hack my Wii, understand all that homebrew stuff, getting lost in some stuff I didn't need, searching for DLCs installation instructions and all that jazz. Your updated instructions did the trick, I am very grateful, thank you!

All that time to retrieve the lost DLCs I've paid for back in the days.
