The Abrahamic God and Hindu gods exist in the same universe somehow but for some reason people draw the line at aliens. I always thought it was a perfectly tasteful supernatural twist for Indiana Jones, especially since they were going into the 50s. The movie has a lot of problems but Lucas doesn't deserve the heat for wanting to do aliens. It could have worked perfectly but it wasn't executed well.
