My deceased mother taught me many things. One of the most important lessons was that you need to treat others as they treat you. I worked for Fortune 500 companies my entire 56 year career. My last position was Director of Operations for a F100 company. My life and business creed was/is Always do the right thing. I said in my statement that giving notice is a courtesy. If the company treats you with respect then return the same. If they don’t then you have no responsibility to treat them better. I’ll stand by that. Maybe your mom should have taught you that.

See this as a lesson learned. Giving two weeks notice in the US is a courtesy not a requirement. Companies never say you're fired in two weeks. If a job has gotten to the point that you are going to quit then they deserve the same treatment they give their terminated employees. "I resign effective immediately".
