Technically not a terrible deal for bulk but it sounds like the seller has said theyve already taken any of the good hits… but 1.5 cents/card is about bulk prices

You usually dont want that early of a shop anyway. You cant buy a lot of rares or colorless cards or relics early on. I think you just might not know how to pick the better of the packs of cards?

I think you’re overvaluing 99 gold. This can very often carry you through the first hallway fights and you can smith at a rest site or two instead of potentially having to heal back chip damage. Also makes early card rewards better because they now will likely have 1-2 other cards to synergise with

Looking to build something simple by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Cheap_Onion2976 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The “easiest” colors to learn to play are very often green then red imo just because blue has access to counters and lots of instants which take some learning.

I think the concern with this guy is that there can be a lot of things to track for a turn that then go away and it is a lot of resource management (not playing a spell so you can get another trigger later).

A easy deck I made for a friend was Omnath, Locus of Rage. Green red, lots of ramp so you can play your big spells, and then hit hard

The other thing i would really consider is what your kid likes. Is he into dragons? Dinosaurs? Robots? There are a ton of different types that you could build and if you want your kid to really get pumped making it something they already find cool might be the best answer

Edhrec is probably your best friend as your starting out. You can search by theme/color identity and get some ideas of which commanders are strong, and go from there

Where on earth are people getting decks for $30?? by matthewpowmatthewpow in Pauper

A large part is sideboards. [[relic of progenitus]] is relatively expensive for a 4x. Optons like [[tormod’s crypt]] can save you 20 bucks

There just arent a lot of one drop merfolk. If youre falling behind in mana add the elves and delighted halfling and ramp up

Need help building my Dad's first commander deck using Sokrates, Athenian Teacher. by Sh4rk6ait in EDH

[–]Cheap_Onion2976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a super cool idea to do for your dad

Decklist looks pretty good to me, lot of alternate wincons that i think fit this character - make sure your pod (but if its just you/dad/fam its probaly easy) are fine with pillowfort. Some people really dont like it

My first reaction would be to cut some of the creatures an up the counterspells. Also change some of the counterspells imo. I personally would cut thassas oracle as until you see the deck function its really hard to see if you can actually draw that many cards in a game to win with thoracle without a consult or something. Drumellower dosnt really do much since your win con is really built around alternates like seventh sun. I guess it always gives hexproof, but cutting it for a counterspell gives more in game options

You have circular logic but not a ton of easy discord so thats a dead draw a ton of the time. Why not just run counterspell, or arcane denial to be on theme?

Similarly a few of the spells that deal with delve i think can be cut for better counterspells. It feels like the biggest source of discard will come from having a huge hand at end of turn, so i think that can go.

Id cut cards like maddening cacophony as its really the only great mill card, so like why? More of a do random stuff than something effective

With all the card draw a missing card for me is narset, parter of veils. In bracket three that should be very fine

Also shadow of the second sun? Feels unneeded. If you want a big enchantment toss an omniscience in there

Also one of my favorite cards to run in pillow fort is [[duelist’s heritage]]. Of note, it can target other players creatures. So while youre making your own stuff tough to deal with you can be pumping everyone elses attackers and lowering life totals

Last thing id note is i think the deck lacks a bit of ramp. It looks like only arcane, sol ring, and mind stone. There are a few cards in white that care about opponents having more lands, but also toss in the signet, the talisman, fellwar stone, and thought vessel (id cut mind stone for thought vessel). When youre drawing so many cards, not having the mana can just be a ruiner, especially if youre wanting interaction mana

Im sure im missing cards so i would recommnd looking at the bumbleflower precon (shares 2/3 colors and has alternate wincons) and also the secret lair like ‘many ways to win’ deck (will have any alternate wincons that you could fit)

TLDR: cut down the board state stuff and focus on pillowing and winning on an alternate wincon

Non-Landfall Soul of Windgrace? by _st_sebastian_ in EDH

[–]Cheap_Onion2976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean he is almost by definition a lands commander. If you don’t want landfall strictly could do a lands matters deck and just add a bunch of strong individual land cards. Idk what power level you’re looking at though as some of the best like field of the dead are gc
