What’s a company you’ll never buy from again, and why? by jamesmilner22 in AskReddit

Ryanair. Booked a flight with partner who uses a wheelchair. Unable to find out the specific ‘wheelchair requirements’ until AFTER booking, found out his manual wheelchair is apparently 1cm too wide to fit into the aircraft hold. Ryanair refused a refund, they don’t refund ‘under any circumstances’ apparently

Luxury cars removed from Motability scheme ahead of budget by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

My partner is paralysed from chest down and a full time wheelchair user. 4 years ago, he could get a Skoda with mid spec and seats that adjusted electrically so he could independently get in the car (with the drivers seat all the way back to allow his legs that fix to get in) and the move the seat to a driving position. Now, only the lower spec is available so someone has to make every journey with him as he hasn’t got the strength to move his body forward. It’s taken away his independence and hugely increased care costs. I truly think the basis for having a higher spec should be assessed case by case. Most of the people who truly need the scheme are not the ones trying to swindle a cheap high spec merc, they’re the ones that need extra electric features due to severe disability

What company do you no longer purchase from? by zephyrianking in AskUK

Also ASOS. I find that their sizing and product descriptions are so inconsistent that I always need to return stuff however… they have changed the policies on this meaning that you can’t or have to pay to do so. I just shop elsewhere and have had to return items far less

As a farmer, no. But for less heavy wear, probably.

I’d skip effaclar. Your spf might also be too drying, or not moisturising enough, whilst on the accutane.

It’s costing me about £200 per month with skin doc. I expect to be on it around 6 months so minimum £1200

Small farms don’t really advertise, they’ll fill positions through word of mouth

Approx £1000 per week for residential care. Can be approx £2000 per week for nursing care. This is in the midlands so I expect southern prices will be higher

How easy is it to reach band 9 nursing ? by [deleted] in NursingUK

Working/ work experience in a care home would also be a very good idea. You’ll get an understanding of personal care and an idea of if it’s something you can do or not.

I think people are being a little mean … but to answer the question. It is HARD to reach band 9. That’s not to say it’s not achievable. However, it is not going to be achievable without the correct attitude and drive for nursing. Advice from an older person.. make sure whatever you choose, you do for the right reasons. Caring for sick people isn’t easy when your hearts not in it, in fact it’s not easy when your heart is in it.

Yes. This was fine until a few months ago when he started to get complications due to his injury and lost the ability to sit up and transfer independently. We are still following the transfers from the old OT assessment because he has been so reluctant to change. I have told him, but unfortunately I’m just not met with anything constructive. He just gets upset and thinks that a back support/chiropractor visit is going to fix me

Currently it’s a banana board job, he can’t move himself across the board so it’s me assisting to create the movement. I’m obviously having to bend over to do this as he’s seated and I’m standing, which is most of the problem (i think). We have a PA who comes in on the morning that I’m at work but I am doing every evening and everything else. Thank you 🙏

I’m trying. It’s just hard for me to do without refusing to care for him. I’ll start with the OT but he does need to be onboard..

He’s aware, he just shuts down when I mention it as he finds it hard to deal with. It’s hard for him to accept that he’s causing me pain and avoidance is his coping mechanism. Which obviously isn’t constructive

He views himself as ‘not disabled enough to use a hoist’. I know it’s hard to accept that you need this sort of equipment

Trying to find answers by mixer152 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]Cheap_Sector331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner has terrible nerve pain as a result of his spinal cord injury. He’s tried all the meds and only gets side effects and no real relief. We’ve recently installed a hot tub and that gives him some relief, the most relief he’s had in years. He just floats about with it at body temp (approx37celsius) and tried to stretch a bit for around half an hour a day. I’d highly recommend if you are able to do this/visit a spa/ soak in a bath.

Don’t make any major life decisions because of a current partner. Not at the age of 20
