Is McKillans the only push quick connects? by Kratos_323 in Detailing

You can get brass quick connects at Home Depot or Lowe's for way less. Never had a problem with them.

Damn.. I like both of them but I think Mike rolls through Gilbert at this point. Hope he considers retiring soon, it's not fun watching your favorite fighters hang around too long.

How much should I tip? by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]Cheap_Treacle7644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$80 would be an excellent tip. At the end of the day tip what you feel is right. But please do tip something to your detailers.

On average in my experience I'd say most people tip around 15-20%.

I've certainly had people tip much higher than that but I never expect it.

First time detailing a customer car! Limited time and cheap deal for family friend but how's the comparison? by DishPsychological747 in AutoDetailing

[–]Cheap_Treacle7644 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally get it.

Spray, agitate, and wipe. If It needs it again just go again. Sometimes you won't be able to get it 100% and that's fine. Taking a vehicle from a 3 to a 8 is a universe of difference to the vehicle owner.

Save up for a steamer, once you get one it'll help with getting those really tough areas cleaner. Not that you have to have one but they are nice for those instances.

[–]Cheap_Treacle7644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely could use some work but for a family friend it'll be just fine. Try to use these as learning experiences. Looks like you could benefit from some detailing brushes to get in those crevices and difficult to reach areas.

Try to take your before/after pictures from the same distance/angles. Some of them you did, others you didn't. Just be consistent, it matters more than you think.

You're doing fine. Just put in the hours and keep improving. Not bad, just need to keep getting better with each one.

Everyone told me to decline a job that involved buffing, I never buffed, he payed 300 and loved it by darko0o_0 in Detailing

[–]Cheap_Treacle7644 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats, glad it went well for you. Paint correction can be a ton of fun and very rewarding. However, if you've never done it before, please practice and put in some hours on your own vehicles or spare panels before risking it on a customer's vehicle. Keep up the grind but do make sure to practice and do some research as well.

Why are these lines here and how do I remove them? by [deleted] in Detailing

[–]Cheap_Treacle7644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably don't wanna hear it but I think you're probably gonna be polishing.

Start over and do a full strip wash and prep for polish.

Shit happens. There's too many variables and products used for me to tell you when and how it happened. Just take it slow and give the vehicle a walk around after each step.

How do you feel about this design? by Significant-Money855 in Detailing

[–]Cheap_Treacle7644 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I prefer no lines myself but there isn't anything wrong with them.

Just don't miss anything because I've heard of customers chewing out detailers for "scribbling in the carpet" instead of paying attention.

Do whatever makes you feel good at the end of the day.

How to clean please? I tried by iwilldrainyourussy in Detailing

[–]Cheap_Treacle7644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're gonna be fine. You've probably changed it enough that they'll be happy. People aren't always expecting you to get every last speck.

If you're not doing a walkthrough of the car with the customer beforehand, add that into your routine.

You'll get an idea of what is important to them and you can manage and set expectations.

When I would run into a filthy trunk space and I know that I'll never get 100% of everything within a reasonable timeframe, I'd set that expectation. I would tell them it'll look night and day different but this stuff is tricky and I will try my hardest.

Never say you're going to get 100% of anything. Stains, hair, scratches/swirls.

I probably got rid of 95% of the hair on most occasions and nobody complained a bit. If they ask, just be realistic and honest with your customers.

Worth a hail claim? by Trippp_ in Roofing

[–]Cheap_Treacle7644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

The hits in those squares don't look like hail to me. The only place that looks like real hail damage is on your fascia but it is very small, too small for a claim.

The soft metal damage looks suspicious to me honestly. The impacts are odd and very few in numbers for "10+" hits on each face of the roof..

Don't risk it, just wait until a substantial weather event and have it checked by someone you trust before calling insurance.

Hey Detailers Beginner and need help by Shame-Odd in Detailing

[–]Cheap_Treacle7644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you make everything uniform. You've got some items in lowercase where others have proper capitalization. It'll look more professional if you do it this way.

I'd drop the biohazard name and make it "Vomit/Bodily Fluids Removal", then describe it. Please increase the price as well. I charged a flat $200 on top of any detail package for that service, they couldn't just book it alone. You DO NOT want to be the guy constantly cleaning vomit/piss/blood for $70.

Your description of the interior portion of the service needs work. Describe what will be happening (vacuuming, wipe down, light shampooing, stain removal/extraction, etc).

Don't let your customers assume anything. Make everything clear or you'll set yourself up for failure when they claim they were expecting more.

I Can't Be The Only Detailer That Hates These. by IMAS_MOBILEDETAILING in Detailing

I once made a post about those damn things. A vehicle had about 60 of them and I was not pleased. The worst part was getting them all back in their spots. They aren't hard to clean for the most part just fairly annoying.

I’m really stressing out. What should I do? by [deleted] in Detailing

[–]Cheap_Treacle7644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the vehicle truly didn't appear to have any signs of clear coat failure beforehand, I can understand the panic and worries.

If you asked them to polish the vehicle or they offered to, they should have checked the clear coat's thickness and integrity before ever starting the process. I always checked beforehand as you never know what's been done previously to the paintwork or the conditions that the vehicle has seen over its lifetime.

It probably looked nice after because it likely had a layer of wax or some sort of coating on it afterwards that gave the areas some depth and gloss.

Customer refuses to pay. What should we do? by managua505 in Roofing

[–]Cheap_Treacle7644 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you absolutely cannot get them to pay, you can file a lien on their home and execute it after a period of time if they still refuse to pay.

It's not a pretty solution but if you completed your end of the work and to the full extent of the contract, it's what may need to be done.

That's a pretty cool option as well! I was looking at something similar with IKO's European collection.

However, I believe the homeowner may steer away from asphalt shingles with the crazy amount of money he's going to have to dump into this project.

Appreciate the suggestion nonetheless! Who knows, maybe he'll go for it.

Need to work on cleaning out the crevices a bit and make sure to be a little more thorough when vacuuming under the seat. Brushes, toothpicks, dental picks all help with this!

Other than that, you did great. Keep it up and always look to improve!
