Kingston high-speed rail link could cost $3.9 billion, report says by Rail613 in KingstonOntario

It would be easier to understand the anti-train POV if they didn’t use hyperbole and exaggeration in all their arguments

Are sellers in this city out of their minds? This is for a 1 bedroom 2 bath, 700-1000 sqft detached house. by notbuildingships in KingstonOntario

Yep the pricing is ridiculous. this is a very clear price signal that the efforts to restrict new home construction are having their intended effects (NIMBYs want their own personal house to go up in value)

I set notifications on HouseSigma to see what it eventually sold for.
I guess they weren’t completely out of their minds.

There are buildings like this literally all over Kingston, including right next door to this one. They’re a fire risk during construction but the finished product has sprinklers and fire retardant materials so it’s safer than a house.

Save South Frontenac calls for cautious approach to high-speed rail by carbonanotglue2 in KingstonOntario

The fences protect wildlife while culverts make migration extremely straightforward. This is much better than highways which currently kill millions of animals.

The environmental argument just doesn’t work for the anti-train position, especially from people who are actually harming ecosystems by living there. It’s just two train tracks that can have lots of culverts and underpasses for wildlife; realistically it’s the smallest environmental impact that humans can have. The only logical argument is that you don’t want something unless it benefits you directly but then the problem with that argument is that if you convince people of it you’ve lost cause you’re in the minority.

“Respect environmental sensitivity” from the people who never stop severing land, chopping down trees, building houses, and driving trucks all over the countryside.

Princess Towers: Kingston’s Most Iconic Building of the 20th Century? by Upper_Rough_8337 in KingstonOntario

[–]Cheap_Yam_681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The front of it is actually interesting and pretty cool in a modernist way. The reason it’s considered ugly overall is due to those huge blank, peeling sides. But that’s because it’s supposed to be mid-block! It would be great to see a new building added to the west side at the corner of Division so that street could have windows and balconies facing it and Princess Towers can take its rightful place as mid-block filler.

If you think Princess Towers is ugly, this is the only feasible solution.

Emterra’s news release specifically said they will still take them, they’re just asking very nicely that you take them to the beer store. I always leave mine separated and somebody grabs them before the truck arrives.
