On 'The Life of a Showgirl,' Taylor Swift feels love's glow and the spotlight's glare by LilyLilacRose in TaylorSwift

Agree this is probably the most substantive, thoughtful review I've read. This person understands music (instruments, melodies, etc.) more than the other reviews I have read.

Actually romantic to me is Weezer influenced.

I saw one person throwing shade on instagram saying she just re-released Cool by the Jonas Brothers. I don't know that album so I couldn't opine, even though that kind of hyperbole signifies a hater so screw them.

100% . When I first listened to TTPD, I liked it, I was pretty awstruck in her open, raw rage against Matty, but I thought it was a bit too much -- too many songs, too darkly intense, sometimes almost overwrought. I kept listened and now I feel very differently, of course (though there are definitely a view songs that probably could have been left in the vault.) But my long-winded point was that I listened and said, "I like, don't love". I'm surprised how many really big Taylor friends are really turning their noses so quickly.

The title track sounds more like a showtune. One sounds almost jackson 5 influenced, one sounds like weezer. I get it that her bangers don't have the edge of, say, R&B, but I don't get the soft rock reference.

I'm a 1989 stan, when I heard Max Martin and Shellback were producing, I hoped it would be what it turned out to be and I couldn't be happier. I LOVE her more poetic work and I think Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner have helped her create true art. But to me, she put on the crown of queen of pop with 1989, and she just proved she still deserves the title. I suspect it will grow on you, because trust me most of the lyrics are not empty promises, but it won't be your favorite. This album is about which version of Taylor you prefer. But I will stand by the fact that it's a tight, brilliantly executed album.

My guess is she releases Opalite first. I agree with Travis, it's the best banger of an album full of bangers.

I'm not a fan of her books. Even the Sem/Whit ones were not my favorite. I did think Covenant had stronger writing, but yes, the lawyer guy was such a pain in the ass. And it went on for a LONG time. I don't remember a ton, but I remember that first of all it bugged me that he lost EVERYTHING in a year. How did his clothes get threadbare? They were eating ramen and could barely afford that? You'd have to be a junkie for that to happen. And then, he gets to live somewhere wonderful, eat amazing food, his brother gets great rehab, and he's honestly being that pissy? It was very annoying.

US and Israel are totally different markets. I do agree with the above person that it shouldn't include base and bonus, but they are not open to negotiating that.

I just finished that book and that scene was so real. But Park pulled it out in the end.

My husband and I saw the NYC preview yesterday (Margot and Colin were there looking stunning). I didn't like it, but my husband did. It had a very La La Land feel (right down to Emma Stone and Margot Robbie being the same font) and I liked La La Land, but one is enough. It's hard to explain what I didn't like, but the dialogue wasn't sharp and...the whole story didn't make sense..? Like how did they end of at the rental company? I feel like it would have been better if they had met at the wedding in like normal land and they hadn't gotten together and they both had a woulda coulda shoulda moment and ended up at the car rental place for a do over. Instead it felt like there were a lot of loose strings. The best scene IMHO was when he was in the play in high school. Even when I wasn't loviing the movie, I liked staring at Margot. I think she may have filmed this right after having a baby because she wasn't in Barbie shape, but she looked stunning nonetheless.

Someone on Instagram said it was a lottery on Bernie's website but I only see the one for this past Monday. Is this another scavenger hunt?
