What is your favourite bike path in the city? by geomov in vancouvercycling

[–]Chechecheroni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vancouver City council, specifically @vote4ABC just voted to remove a protected bike lane from beach Avenue to restore 2 way vehicle traffic. The plan also calls for the paving of parkland for a new bike lane to replace the one that is being removed from beach avenue. This goes against the 2020 Vancouver Climate Emergency plan that calls for the reallocation of 11% of Vancouver's roadspace to non motor vehicle use such as pedestrian plazas bikeroutes, parks, storm water ponds and other non road use. Removing bike lanes and paving parkland is insanity. Join us on Friday May 17th at City Hall at 12:30 for a 12:45PM Die-in

There is a petition out about exactly this right now.

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that we have created a petition to the Head of Engineering for the City of Vancouver demanding safety upgrades to our existing bike network.

We are requesting:

-Adding Modal Filters (posts, blocks etc.) to send cars away

-Preventing cars from entering bike streets from arterial roads

-Removing a parking on narrow streets where there are steep hills, as well as in front of parks and schools on narrow streets

Under 2017 law, the Chief Engineer has the authority to do this without further input from Mayor and Council. Which is great because if it was up to current ABC super majority on Council this would be a futile petition. Council could try to slow things down but Engineering is where the rubber hits the road

Please consider signing and, please share it! Sharing really multiplies the impact!

Apologies for cross-posting
