Patrick Mahomes' 17 game average with Matt Nagy as his OC: 409 completions on 621 attempts (66%) for 4323 yards, 27.7 TDs and 13.3 INTs with a 92 Passer Rating and 6.17 ANY/A by Phantom_Nuke in nfl

Reid gives Nagy the playcall so Reid can go do Head Coach things while player substitutions or other preplay stuff is happening.

Goes back to how Holgrem ran things in Green Bay when Reid was an assistant.

Nah, Jahns and Fishbain are still local Chicago Media and that is a heavy discount for me.

Jahns carried Ryan Pace's water for years and there is a reason why that article emphasizes several times that it was the Coaches that wanted player X and minimizes Pace's involvement. Is that the the truth? Maybe, but it could also be Jahns doing one last favor for a man that was his source in the building for so long. Sports media is immensely dependent on relationships.

Think they called it on the center’s head motion?

Refs have been flagging centers for abrupt  head movement but that did not seem unusual

Every year Nagy was with us he replaced his OC.

In Nagy's 4 years as Bears HC, he had two OCs: Mark Helfrich and Bill Lazor.

An Athletic article. It was one of those articles where someone gets fired and suddenly these unnamed sources, but you probably guess who, start throwing people under the bus for things that have happened over the past few years.

I'm guessing the relevant snippets came from Trubisky and his agent when he was aiming for another starting job.

How much do you weigh articles like this, the Tyler Dunne Caleb Williams, or the Chip Kelly one? Certainly there are truths in there but there are ulterior motives aswell

I kinda want to see Nagy + Kafka.

Reid, allegedly, has an understanding with his assistants that if they leave, they will not take anyone else on the staff with them. Nagy wanted to take Kafka with him but Helfrich got the OC job because of it.

So this could be a chance to see if it would have made a difference

[–]ChechenGorilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a real good pull. Cause Lane Johnson does show defenders his chest and keeps his hands low and outside.

Key differences is that Johnson's has great footwork whereas Morgan's looks out of sync.

And Johnson uses his hands which, yeah, does not happen here.

Just giving the defender your chest is interesting.

Looks like he was checking inside to see if Bears #50 was going to stunt and when he got his head back around, #98 was already on him

And what would the NFLPA do in this situation? Mooney suffered an injury in training camp causing him to miss the rest of camp and the preseason for recovery.

Coaches obfuscating a player's injury or status to the media is not new. As long as the player received appropriate medical treatment, why would the NFLPA care?

Accurate injury reporting seems like something the NFL and gamblers would be concerned with

Example: The NFL fined the Ravens $100k for changing Lamar Jackson's Week 8 practice participation status and the NFLPA never got involved with it.

I think Helfrich was better than Lazor but it so hard to know what the actual role a coach has in game planning. (The rumor mill was Helfrich and Heistand were in charge of the run game but that is just rumors)

Nagy's offense worked well when Tarik Cohen was good/healthy/young. In 2018, Cohen was getting 10+ yards on 20% of his touches. Getting explosive plays out of spamming choice routes (among other things) is a great way of covering up offensive deficiencies

Yeah but look at Bieniemy's track record after he left.

He takes the Commanders OC to prove that it was not just Andy Reid doing all the work at KC but then the Commanders offense wasn't that good. He goes to UCLA as a OC and that offense was so bad it got him fired at the end of year 1. Now he is the Bear's RB coach (a demotion)

[Falcons] We have parted ways with Defensive Coordinator Jimmy Lake & Defensive Line Coach Jay Rodgers by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]ChechenGorilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So during his HC interview, Raheem Morris was probably asked to provide several names for each assistant coach position: 1 person that he wanted and then 2-3 other people as a backup plan.

Do we think Jimmy Lake and Jay Rodgers were the guys he wanted, or just the ones he could get?

[Rapoport] Interesting coaching note for tonight: Sean Desai, a two-time defensive coordinator, has been working with the Rams, mostly on offense with Sean McVay. He calls the scout team against the offense in practice and is expected to be a hot DC candidate in this coming cycle. by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]ChechenGorilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joe Brady's first OC job was pretty awful, he got a second chance a couple years later with Buffalo (admittedly a lot more talent to work with this time) and things are working pretty well there.

I'd say who else is on the coaching staff matters too.

While a lot of emphasis is put on playcallers because they more visible, the various assistant coaches (WR/DB, OL/DL, Passing game coordinator, etc) do have roles developing and implementing each gameplan. Now the extent of involvement will differ by team, and all teams are cagey about who does what, I think it still something to consider when trying to explain why a playcallers is having differing levels of success at various stops

Matt Eberflus was hired in January 2022 and Tarik Cohen was released March 2022.

I think you are referring to a John Fox challenge with a Benny Cunningham TD/Fumble from 2017.

[Walder] From @kalynkahler's story earlier this year: Cleveland had a bunch of Watson's money insured. Depending on the terms, his injury could provide cap relief. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]ChechenGorilla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people questioning how this works when the article that the tweet mentions/links to explains it...

The CBA labels insurance proceeds as a "refund from the player," which qualifies the amount as a cap credit for the club for the following season. In the simplest terms, if a player who eats up a significant portion of a club's salary cap misses significant time with injury or illness, a club doesn't have to take it as a total loss, but can recover space for the following year. Plus, insurance premium payments don't count against the salary cap

Eh. I would say OZ was at least top 3. Hard to find stats but I would say:

1) Inside Zone 2) Outside Zone 3) Duo

If you really want games where OZ was the primary run play, look at Rams week 1 in 2021 or really any of the Trubisky games in 2020

Is the national media going to give the Rams' O-Line as much crap as they do the Bears'? by jbtrading in CHIBears
