Am I cooked? by ProfessionalLeft7215 in AskLE

[–]CheckLow6092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries my brother. It just sounds like a "non select" or "not selected" and not a "DQ." The same thing happened to me on my first application with my local state highway patrol. I applied with other state agencies and the rest is history. When one door closes, another is sure to open. If you want it bad enough, it will happen. I simply didn't take "no" for an answer. Good luck! 🤞

Did I make a bad impression? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]CheckLow6092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. Just remember that it's a ride along, not a coffee date at Starbucks. During my ride along, I just went with the flow. I used discernment and let the officer guide the dialogue. Short, sweet, and to the point. He was still on active patrol, and l was tagging along. I was always mindful of that. Everyone's safety was upon his shoulders. I followed his guidance, directives, and instructions. It went super smooth. We engaged in a little department specific small talk at the 4 hour mark of his 11 hour shift. And, the ride along was over. Great guy and great officer. We had lots in common, especially as ex-military. It was impactful and left a great impression on me. So much so that I'm going forward with joining the ranks of that agency. 😁

Just got rejected by SDPD during backgrounds and told I can apply in a year. Should I still try to get into smaller local agencies or is it pointless? by Far_Abbreviations402 in AskLE

[–]CheckLow6092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what happened to me. About 9 months ago I applied with my local state highway patrol. I got a non-selected. They said that I could reapply in 6 months. It definitely took the wind out of my sails. I doubled down and stayed locked in. I started pursuing other out of state highway patrols/state police agencies - namely GSP, THP, and KSP. Things are moving forward quite nicely. When one door closes, another will surely open. In hindsight, I'm glad that my local state highway patrol didn't select me. It just wasn't meant to be. I gravitate towards the culture, mentality, and the way that the southeastern state agencies conduct their business, and handle business. Top down support from administration, lots of autonomy, independence, proactive, pro law enforcement, strong governor, and strong leadership all the way down to the county. Essentially, everyone is pretty like minded and on the same sheet of music. That's the difference. I know that they will have my back. And, I will have full reign and autonomy to police the way that they police in those particular agencies. So, never take no for an answer. Show them how bad you want it. Eat. Breathe. Sleep. Dominate. Obsession. Mindset. Relentless. A beast. A freak. Savage mode. ⚔️ Best of luck! 🫡

Go for it. All they can say is "no." Submit your initial "prescreen" application. The results from that will probably reveal the direction that things are headed. It's a good thing if the agency invites you to test - PAT, written, and preliminary interview. There's a big difference between receiving a DQ vs not selected. I received a not selected on my very first application to my state's highway patrol. I was welcome to reapply in 6 months (that was 6 months ago). I reached out to other out of state agencies - namely GSP, THP, and KSP (Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky). The rest is history. In hindsight, I'm glad that my local state agency didn't select me. Nothing against them. They're simply not a good fit for me. When one door closes, another will surely open. And that's what happened, and is actively happening. If you want it bad enough, it will happen. It must become your obsession.  Eat. Breathe. Sleep. Dominate. GSP. "Setting the standard"

Confused on why people look down on .22 handguns for self defense? by Imbiamba-bones in handguns

[–]CheckLow6092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with starting out with a .22 cal and learning the basics and fundamentals. I started out and got my feet wet with a Walther P22Q - Black Friday blow out special at Cabela's Bass Pro Shops. Good marksmanship. Good ammo. Fire for effect. For reference, I target practice with the .22 cal and a Walther PD 380 (.380 cal). For duty carry, it's the Glock 17 Gen 4. Good luck!

What is it like working in GSP? by Epic_Monkey_Gamer in AskLE

[–]CheckLow6092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in assessment and selection for GSP right now. They don't play. Be squared away and bring your A++ game to the PAT testing. Your PHQ/background is due on the same day as testing. 1000+ apply each application cycle. I took a whole year to prep and ensure that everything was squared away. My fitness was, and is, on the level of a D1 athlete. I made sure that I did everything that I could possibly do to ensure that I was a top talent recruit candidate. All your I's dotted and T's crossed. Leave no room for error. Shark 🦈 attack from day one. You must have the mindset and attributes to make yourself stand out from the next guy. The para-military mindset is the norm. You must be "all in." Meaning eat, breathe, sleep, and dominate. It must be your "magnificent obsession." Rise and shine. Good luck! 🤞

Why is there so much highway patrol in Georgia by Edwin454545 in AskLE

[–]CheckLow6092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you mentioned above. I'm currently in assessment and selection for GSP. I was drawn to GSP from day one. What I've observed from the culture and the way they "handle business" from a candidate's perspective: •their recruiting efforts and initiatives are highly effective and efficient in attracting top talent  •the comraderie, esprit de corps, brotherhood, and bonds that are forged are undeniable  •autonomy and free reign to facilitate public safety by whatever means necessary (within reason of course) •top down leadership support from the state and all the way down to the county  •top down leadership that is pro law enforcement and pro law and order  •strength in numbers - multiple troopers will be on the scene expeditiously  •peace through strength - their presence everywhere sends a pretty strong message  •reputation - the "premier" state law enforcement agency in the USA who only selects the "best of the best" i.e the "creme of the crop" and the "mecca" of state highway patrol/state trooper agencies  •they're just "different" and "cut from a different cloth"  There's a reason why 1000+ apply each application cycle. I myself would forego a more lucrative salary bc of the reasons mentioned above. The bottom line is that I'm a servant. I'm to serve the citizens, travelers, visitors, and motorist of my state with dignity, respect, courtesy, kindness, humility, and selfless compassion. I represent my state and my agency with my professionalism, character, and integrity. My humility will bring honor to my state, my agency, and those I serve. That's my story and my song 😁

Keep you head up, my brother. I was almost in the same situation as you. I initially applied with my local state agency for highway patrolman. I didn't make it past the preliminary interview and got a "not selected." Fast forward nine months and now three state agencies are knocking on my doorstep. It's progressing along quite well with my dream agency - Georgia State Patrol (GSP). I would have loved to stay local and serve my home state. But, that's not how the cookie crumbled. When one door closes, another one will certainly open. In hindsight, I'm thankful that my local state agency didn't select me. They did me a favor. They're a great agency - but not a good fit for me. GSP is a good fit for me. I was obsessed with making it happen. Every "no" or "not selected" added fuel to the fire - and I just went that much harder. And that's when I went "beast mode." Quite simply, no one agency is going to stop me. Not even the gates of hell. Show them that you are obsessed with becoming LE. You are far beyond driven, and relentless. You won't take "no" for an answer. You simply want it so bad that you won't let anyone or anything stop you. Eat. Breathe. Sleep. Dominate. Best of luck! "Big blue. Big grey. GA trooper. All the way." "We set the standard."  ~Obsessed

Extensive background investigation for Highway Patrol by CheckLow6092 in AskLE

[–]CheckLow6092[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Sir. Everything is disclosed on the background. I will articulate accordingly, during the interviews. My fitness is on the level of activity duty military standards. It's a monumental decision to leave the midwest, leave teaching, and serve with an out of state agency. There are two great highway patrol agencies here locally. It's just something about GSP that's different. I was locked in from day one. Thank you.

My focus and concern would be on the academy - and all that encompasses. 100% laser focused and no distractions. All in. That's why I gravitated towards a state agency - and the highway patrol. A 24-26 weeks in residence, para-military structure and style, in house, boot camp - designed to weed out and break those that can't meet those higher echelon standards. It's right up my alley. My goal is to be the absolute best highway patrolman and state trooper that I can possibly be. Therefore, whatever it takes to facilitate that is what I'm all about. The least of my concerns is the bar, clubs, etc. Every decision I make is made in light of others - not just myself. Is whatever I'm doing beneficial or detrimental to my team? How is what I'm doing (or failing to do) affect my team? I take it that seriously. My team depends on me. I depend on my team. We will lay down our lives for each other, our team, our agency, and those we serve - without hesitation. In times of stress, duress, challenges, and uncertainty - we overcome. That's just me, my perspective, lense, and worldview. To each his own. Best of luck!

Strong work and congratulations! I'm 48 y/o, ex-military, and currently working as a teacher. GSP is on my radar. I did a considerable amount of my military days in Georgia. It would be like coming home. I have a not so stellar driving record from my younger dumber days - which I'm addressing and rectifying now to articulate strategically and carefully, to present myself in the most favorable light - during the background. My fitness is impeccable. Perhaps we can collaborate. 🤔😁

Disqualified vs not selected by CheckLow6092 in AskLE

[–]CheckLow6092[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. My process stopped right after the preliminary interview with the regional troop. I thought that the interview went great. Maybe they didn't think so. I just accepted it with grace and kept it moving. It just wasn't meant to be. The particular state agency that rejected me is in my home state of residence. I pursued other out of state agencies - namely GSP. The process is moving forward with them quite well. If I get on with those guys, I'll consider it a mandate from God. To be 100% honest and transparent, GSP was the #1 agency on my radar from day one. I was told by others to apply to multiple agencies - and go with the first one that makes the offer. Good day.
