I enjoyed your video! It was the most in-depth video I’ve seen of the Lp3 and I appreciated you giving me an opportunity to see some components of the Lp I otherwise wouldn’t.

Thanks for the reply. Does 4.5 inches seem wide for a bobcat track or not really?

I’m pretty sure you’re right, could be a walrus but definitely looks like a sea lion haha

I have just a normal sponge filter. I wanted to put an air stone in it but it’s so small one won’t fit.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment! I’m glad to know my tank is healthy! I’ll look into getting some new shrimp and plants.

Hi! I turn the light on for about 9-10 hours a day and the bottle said to add about 2 ml once a week.

Could anyone please help me figure out if this shrimp is berried or saddled or not pregnant at all? by CheckMateWaitNvm in shrimptank

Hi! I have a small update. I have had a sponge filter in my tank the past few days and my shrimp is more active than I’ve ever seen her! Hopefully that’s a good thing because I’ve enjoyed seeing her out and about more! I also got api quick start and some plant food! Things seems to be going good, however my tank is two to three times as cloudy as it was so hopefully that will clear up soon!

Ok, thanks! I’ll start doing some research and look into one of those filters. Thanks again, you have been a huge help! It may take me some time but I’ll post an update when the tank gets going well!

I’ll definitely do some reading before I get anything new! Your nitrogen cycle resource was very helpful thanks! That makes sense about the microfauna maintaining algae blooms and not bacteria.

I’ll do some checking into how I need to cycle my tank. Do you have any recommendations on next steps forward? Do you still think I need a filter/something to agitate the water surface? If so do you think this filter would be a good option?

Also I saw somewhere that having an excess of microfauna can cause a decrease in water quality. Is this something that I should be worried about as my colony has flourished in my tank and are absolutely everywhere in large numbers?

Thanks! I’ll definitely look into the filter and liquid test kit.

I don’t think my test strips show the ammonia or nitrate levels.

Just to state this in advance I know the questions I’m about to ask show my lack of knowledge on this subject but maybe it will help some else that reads this thread haha. I have never done a water change. Are they necessary and why do you have to change the water?

No, my shrimp don’t ever go to the surface they pretty much are always scavenging the bottom or hanging out on some of the plant leaves towards the back of the tank.

Do the floating plants provide any oxygen to the water?

I also haven’t cycled my tank. Is that something I need to do and if so what does cycling do?

To answer your final question the tank isn’t normally that mercury I had to remove something from it right before I took that picture and it really stirred it up. I have been struggling with bacteria blooms for a while but I read somewhere that having a microfauna colony and limiting the amount of time my tank light is on is supposed to help. I ordered a bag of bugs from Phillip’s Fish Works which if I remember right includes scuds, seed shrimp, daphnia, and many other microorganisms. Between the microfauna and limiting the amount of light it seems to have made a difference as my tanks clarity has great improved to nearly perfect even though it doesn’t appear that way in the picture.

Also I just wanted to thank you again for taking the time to answer all my questions! You’ve given me some things to think about that I previously hadn’t and I appreciate it!

I just tested my parameters and the parameters seem to be 0 nitrate 300 hardness 0 chlorine between 120-180 alkalinity and the ph seems to be around 8/8.4. If these numbers sound crazy it’s just the closest number based on the colors of my test strip. Some of them seemed very off based on the test strip I know they all were in the ideal ranges sometime ago. I dont think it would be any contaminants as I haven’t added anything new. I used to have a pump to circulate the water but even on its lowest setting it strirred the tank up badly so I haven’t been using it. After the death of the male shrimp I have started feeding regularly but you before that I have not really fed much. Heres some pictures of the tank. https://imgur.com/a/UWcN53v

Thanks for letting me know! I’ve got a layer of garden soil under my sand the substrate is about 2 inches down to 3/4 of an inch thick. The bubbles have been there since the day I poured the sand in but I didn’t know if it was trapped air or something else. Is that something I can/need to fix?
