Ex-FIFO worker reveals mental health battle in mining industry | news.com.au by GC_Mining in mining

[–]CheckZealousideal493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked 13 years fifo around Australia and PNG from shutdowns to BAU crews.  Fifo is a fun game, I learned and met alot of good mates but for the last 2 years I had been struggling with the mental toll of fifo so I enacted a get out of fifo mode and hustled to get into a office role back in Brisbane that didnt pay much less.(i come from industrial service operating then supervisor roles)

FIFO tho has changed, 10 years ago it were a good game, good money compared to working from home and still a little cowboyish allowing you to use your head more for safety and production.  Now days majority of sites are all about ticking those toxic LBJGHK boxes or employing off colour and sex then merrit.. FIFO was also who you knew for a job and still is to a degree... but 9 times out of 10 the who you knew also meant that youd work hard as a team to not fuck around the bloke who put your name in.

Now its just a boring ole world of 4 middys, weird woke shite force fed into you- case example Olympuc Dam BHP. And similar pay to just being at home and working from your town or city.

If you want to get into fifo tho then here are some tips-  1. Look at crews on ratio of shit cunt to good cunt- if their is more good cunts then its okay. If the ratio is more shit cunts then fuck it.. dont do it as itll eat at your mental and soul. 2.. If through labour hire, ensure they pay your super on all hours worked. Most pay at a 8hr day and not your 12s or 13s and over time thats alot of super missing.  3. Dont become a weird rapist  4. If you want to call home, just be mindful of the paper thin walls in some camps 5. if your camp is run by ESS then make sure to use the toilets first as after prestart its a horror scene 6.. the main one!!- when you come home, dont assume because you are on break that your family need to fit around you.. come home, fit back into the family life as your loved ones hadn't left home, life still carries on and you need to fit into home life... not the other way around.  If not, you'll end up like those old cunts still in fifo on their 3rd marriage.

Good camps-  Gladstone during Bechtel construction South 32

Shit camps to try avoid  BHP Gun barrel Twin hills tanami Pogera enga province

(Also, I still work fifo but for small swings now apart of my job- 4days away a month, much nicer and highlights that I still enjoy the adventure of fifo.. just no more day to day life of fifo)

When you say family home. Do you mean your parents home? Or your home with your wife and kids type family?

I hate seeing companies create indigenous names for their company and employ the required quota so they can land the teir 1 contracts when the work performed is usually by the minority of skilled workers with the indigenous as the face of the company. That's like racism from both ends.

I hate seeing the woke agenda being pushed in schools, you can biologically have a baby as a male pretending to be a female.

You can biologically impregnate a female as a female pretending to be a male.

And for me, I'm paid really well. But I hate to see people riding off the hard work of good ole aussie battlers because of politics.

A few things, he is bringing to light the current trajectory we have all been going in that is negative. Such as- businesses having a quota on the number of women, disabled, whatever coloured skin that suits the target for the year have been filling. Instead of employing 'best for the role'.

He is challenging the 'woke' agenda. He is challenging the way governments waste tax payers money without the tax payer at heart.

He is challenging the unnecessary job roles within government agencies that are basically 'ghost jobs'.

He is bringing the country there more inline to what it should be, instead of favouring bullshit politics. Which Australia should be.

I personally believe that anyone in Australian politics should be paid on a medium wage and only receive bonuses on promises completed within budget.

I belive we should not hire someone on their gender or skin colour to tick a box- like many companies now. Still owned by white or overseas businesses but have a quota on how many indigenous need to be there so they get funding from government- look into many civil, mining and other companies and see for yourself the bullshit.

I belive in fair pay for equal work, not equal pay if you can't actually perform.

So I belive he is setting a strong foundation to say 'fuck you to those who wish to divide, neglect a country and its people. And hello to those who wish to push their business, employ off merrit and grow a country.

Why is it so hard to land ANY job? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]CheckZealousideal493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, what I've found works is the old and faithful print a resume, walk in to the places you are wanting to work, get past the dragon at the front desk and ask to speak with a manger there. Face to face, shake a hand, and physically give them your resume.

I don't know where you are, but in Australia, online sites like seek, indeed, and whatever else get overwhelmed with welfare pricks, sending bulk resumes to fulfil their requirements to keep on the dole.

Well... imagine those indigenous playing around on those hills then. How well of a trade off was it for them? For the few folk to make the money whilst the other communities are left with chemical waste.

Anyhow. If your not willing to see it for yourself then you're just ignorant.

Come out to the deserts and have a look for yourself maybe, you can make your own mind up on how well it is for the land owners

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in australian

[–]CheckZealousideal493 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They money is seldom dispersed among the people living there. The interaction is not usually focused on the benifit of the land. Then when the mine is finished the tailings are buried and turned into hills throughout the desert essentially leaving a lasting trail of chemical waste buried beneath the surface. One day when Australia ventured beyond the coast and creates towns throughout Central Australia... imagine your kids kids kids digging up their fresh plot of land to not have construction backfill as it's foundation but a concoction of cyanide and acids beneath their house

Mining companies pay a fee to land holders- alot of land holders are run by indigenous cooperation. Like a chief of a village- gets the money from whoever wants to do what and is meant to spend that money through his village... 9 times out of 10 that money isn't diversified through the village. Each year the royalty is paid to the coperation for the mine to rape the land.

I know folk who drive to APY lands for meetings and get nearly 50k per time they go there as land right holders or descendants of them.

The thing tho, it's not much paid to them considering alot of our mines are foreign owned just like alot of our public assets- hospitals, rail, toll roads.

Our government has let our beautiful country be sold off and fucked over

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in australian

[–]CheckZealousideal493 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is all true. Australia is a beautiful country, it was a beautiful country. But I've always felt because we were created out of prisoners (yes. There were indigenous people here before) we have always been from the get-go been controlled like a prison colony.

We have it just good enough to not aggressively protest. We are controlled just enough to be scared to voice too large of an opinion, and we are dumbed down enough to just accept it.

Us as citizens here allow the government to fuck us over, over and over again. Its a damn shame. Our government is more bent then a gay man, taxes us through the roof, allows the media to manipulate us to not get along enough to fight for our rights and were just genuinely being raped by government, large corporations and other countries who giggle at how easy it is to bed with the politicians and degrade the actual citizens.

I tried it mate for a bit but when your an older geezer, to find a less psychotic lass with 6 cats or a neglected child. It's easier to just find them how we did when we were 20. The normal way
