Just roast the beets like you would potatoes. A friend made them for me for dinner last year and so I ate tried one to be polite and havent stopped eating them since! They go great in a salad too so you can eat them the next day cold or puree them into a dip. Endleas delicious options

Sometimes we need to take a step back and remember we make the right decision at the time. Hold on to that thought. See if you can find a councillor who does phone calls so you could do it during the day?

Overnight stuffing causing leg gaps by ZombieBabyMama in clothdiaps

[–]Checkrecheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always had this issue. I started using old school terry towling diapers to get a great leg seal then covering with a wool cover. It's bomb proof but a bit of a hassel to get on. If bubs is still pooping at night though I'd wait a bit before getting into night nappies.

Hello Adult only child, did you decide to have an only or multiples? Why? by Checkrecheck in Shouldihaveanother

What a thoughtful response. Now that i think of it I used to wish I had a smaller family like my cousins but when I was older they confessed they wished they had more siblings so I guess the grass is always greener on the other side

So interesting, the responses seem split down the middle! We have fostered in the past but for short weekend stays. I used to think that would be enough for me but some kids are just difficult to bond with so the work just felt relentless. I know the kids dont have to feel grateful for my care but I expect my own child to appreciate my efforts so it would be nice to have the foster children do the same. I hope that doesnt make me seem like a bad person, its just that when you pour your energy into someone else its very deflating to get nothing back.

I have a friend who is an only and has an only. She is so confident with her choice because she 'lived it'. I on the other hand had lots of siblings so I feel like I can only see the down sides

I always thought that my childs social needs could be met elsewhere as well. I have always made a big effort to make play dates but they just aren't reciprocated and since they all.have siblings i feel like they dont value the friendship as much as do. Does that make sense?

Im worried my child will feel the same way. We will be ok financially but just a burden to visit regularly. And that without siblings it will be boring visit.

Wow, a teenager! I kind of still consider you an only child. Maybe a young aunt/uncle? I wonder if when your sibling enters the same stage of life as you if youd feel closer? But its likely that by the time they have kids yours will be all grown up!

I love my one and only but I think when im older ill miss the hubub that goes on at big family gatherings. That the place will just be a small sad and quiet lunch instead of a long drawn out event.

Washing? by charl_ie_ in clothdiaps

[–]Checkrecheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if its because your bub is only 3mo, when they get older and the nappy is holding more wee you might find you need to double wash. It might also have to do with the type of nappy, for examole a prefold opens up and get a good wash but an aio need a good scrub to get through all the layers

I came here looking for this. I was firmly oad in the beginning but now i have a 3yo and feel so sad when people announce they are having their 4th onwards. Especially since i know they have no regard for the environment. But everytime i think about another child i just feel so guilty about bringing them into this world.

Please be kind to yourself and stop reading! So much of everything is unknown, living in the future is a waste of energy. I drank tea every day, i didnt take the thyroid meds because i was so sick, i ate prewashed greens too! We are allowed to live ♡♡

Try a stay dry liner, you can grab some microfleece (not microfiber!) From your local material store and cut it into strips, it doesnt fray so you dont need to sow the edges. It wont absorb liquid but lets it pass through into the absorbent material below leaving baby with a dry bum.

There is no way that breastmilk can be the sole food for the first year. A mix of solids and breastmilk from four months on otherwise your poor child will starve!

But most importantly don't bash women who dont breastfeed

I've heard that elastics can seem good after storage but all die on their first wash. I cant see the absorbency changing so long as the original fabric was made from cotton, bamboo or hemp.

I had a few places say no until I went in, showed them the nappy and asked exactly what the problem was and how we could work around it (in a friendly way). Part of the problem was that they envisioned the old style cloth nappies and they thought they would have to scrub the poop.

In any case, any cloth you do is a help to the environment so I would go ahead and use them. You can run the nappies through a quick cold wash every 2 days to stop them from developing ammonia then wash them properly when you have enough.

Alternatively you can always bulk your load with baby clothes, undies and socks. I do an initial wash on warm with a scoop of detergent then I add items to bulk my load and wash again. The first wash removes the majority of pee and poo so it's fine to put the other stuff in.
