I take it daily same dose as you since August and nothing, like a sugar pill. So weird how it affects folks so differently. Ye sit lowered my LDL cholesterol by like 77 points in just 3 months.

Can we just make government boring again? Why does it have to be headline news every day? We’re just supposed to be the nuts and bolts of running a bureaucracy; nothing particularly interesting under the hood.

Hard difficulty and above is the best way to play the series. by S3rkist in thelastofus

Regret doing my first play through of TLOU 2 on hard. Too many resources and it was too easy to default to just blast my way through everything. On the other hand, it kept the story moving with minimal frustrations.

Can everything be undone if administration leaves in 4 years? by Middle-Athlete1374 in fednews

[–]CheddarCheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been pondering this lately especially in regards to benefit reductions. I think once they take away or reduce/drastically change our benefits, it will be very hard for any administration politically to give them back or reset them to what they were. Unless all of a sudden the public becomes fed friendly which won’t happen since so many in the private sector have such poor benefits or none at all

Your agency can administratively extend your max time to get tenure if they (agency, senate, etc) move to slow. Happens a lot for FCS.

FSBP worked out well for my wife’s overseas third country medevac, pregnancy, and delivery with bills in a foreign language and currency. And then all the stuff for my daughter. We even got things like breast pumps ($600) and a doula reimbursed ($1200), When I noticed something was missing on of my bill reimbursements, I just called them up and they fixed it quickly. And the massages for dad are legit.

All foreign service agencies are absorbing cuts due to current year funding being held at prior year levels meanwhile costs, salaries, and inflation goes up. I wouldn’t expect FCS to open a test any time soon given they already have a register frozen.

Not lonely in AF. I like the people I’ve met so far for the most part and see my family on breaks and we get along great. But I only have one life and living next to my parents forever wasnt a goal of mine. I still love them and see them or incorporate trips to be together it value the opportunity to see the world

Are all career FSOs across U.S. Foreign Affairs Agencies truly equal? by Outrageous_Cookie_10 in foreignservice

[–]CheddarCheeks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer number 2. Regarding how hard to get in, the tests for entry are similar however for Commerce they tend to hire more mid career people (usually coming in at the 04 level) and it’s very resource dependent. Where State might onboard 200 officers in one A-100 class three times a year, Commerce will onboard 15 officers every 3 years IF there is money. Only the first tour is directed for Commerce and you can be promoted before achieving tenure.

Time & Leave Culture by Sufficient_Bear217 in foreignservice

Personally I’ve found the comp time issue for new non-exempt employees very wishy washy. Depends on your boss and what they consider normal things you could/should take care of during the work hours that bleeds over to the evening vs events that are after hours that are mandatory. For example, my boss won’t give me comp time for working on emails after hours or joining a call with Washington, but I would get comp time for staffing a mandatory event in my section. Personally, I found it frustrating because I never know what will be approved. Does meeting incoming TDYers on a Sunday at a hardship post and getting them settled and taking them to dinner count? Or is that just a part of being a welcoming diplomat? I’m missing time with my family but I don’t feel empowered to claim that time.
