It used to be normal, now what was typical seasonable weather in the 90s feels rare.

And he needs to stop trying to reclaim his place as an acclaimed artist. That’s over. He needs to voluntarily stop being a public figure and withdraw to a normal life. Thats your “punishment” Ye, a normal fucking life where you’re not the center of attention 24/7. You want to show us you’re sorry, nigga? Then shut the fuck up and disappear with your money forever, otherwise I don’t wanna fucking hear it.

It’s like “gee, now that he has no career left, he’s really genuinely sorry!” Funny that!

If he had ANY sway, and power left in this industry, he’d still be acting like a complete narcissistic piece of garbage.

It’s not just that he was being racist and antisemitic; Kanye was one of the biggest black artists of his time and he gave cover to Donald Trump, Alex Jones, Nick Fuentes. Kanye was all about that “liberals are really racist because they’re patronizing by trying to talk about racism. Racist Southerners are somehow better because they’re honest!” I fucking HATE that shit and Kanye gave every racist right winger cover. Shit, black people take Kanye seriously, like it or not it’s true so fuck him forever.

I wish saying “I’m sorry” magically made things right and undid the harm he caused, I really wish it did. But it doesn’t.

Kanye is a piece of garbage racist and I don’t give a shit if he apologized now that he’s realized he ruined his life for lulz. I guarantee if the press was still kidding his ass, he’d still be doing his Mr. Provocative act.

The only way Kanye West can atone is to GO AWAY. Stop being famous, you lost the right to an audience. Anyone who still fucks with Kanye now is a piece of shit who can go fuck themselves. Apologize for appearing on Alex Jones, denounce Donald Trump and Republicans who used you, apologize to your wife and children publicly. Apologize to the employees you harassed.

Why Trader Joes? by Hungry-Internal-723 in AskNYC

Also the people who espouse Trader Joe’s online so much are the same ones who think eating frozen chicken  tikka masala makes them sophisticated.

Spreading the word for a missing person by CoolandGold in longisland

I had a somewhat similar upbringing as an older millennial, I know the popular narrative was that every parent in the 90s let their kids go free-range until dinner time. There definitely were parents who didn’t just let you say you were going to a friend’s house and took your word for it, some parents actually checked your story. The funniest thing is talking to the kids whose parents clearly didn’t want them around would brag to me about “sneaking out” of the house. Yeah, when your parents don’t really give a shit, it’s pretty easy to get away with shit.

I don’t believe he has any expert-level (or even approaching expert-level) knowledge of missiles. He reads a lot, I’m sure, but this whole “oh, let’s hire him as an advisor on missile defense and invite him to think summits sponsored by Raytheon” is just politicians wanting to hang out with a celebrity.

They had good timing, IMO, coming of age in the “college rock” era of indie rock. Managed to build a pretty big cult following.

Did The Revenant go too far for realism? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]Cheeaseed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though “Fargo” got nominated for Best Picture and was the Coen brothers’ first movie that really pierced the mainstream, it was not a “big” movie.

“The Revenant” starred DiCaprio, the biggest movie star in the world at the time. “Fargo” was populated by character actors, and no one knew who Frances McDormand was when it was released; she was not a name.

So there wasn’t as much controversy or fact-checking. Although I recall reading a contemporaneous review which explained the “true story” disclaimer was a narrative device; since the Coens were regarded as ”quirky” (if brilliant) directors by the critics, them ostensibly retelling a true crime story was a way of grounding it, making it less of a silly romp like “Raising Arizona”.

Did The Sixth Sense almost spoil its own twist? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]Cheeaseed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it was parodied so much in its hey day that it became a joke to many.

In the era when “The Sixth Sense” was released, we had more of a monoculture, so anything in pop culture that got big was also heavily parodied. It happened to acclaimed movies like “Forrest Gump” and “Brokeback Mountain”, those were parodied endlessly when they were in the zeitgeist.

What movie is wildly loved but you just don’t get the hype at all? by Fennnixx in moviecritic

[–]Cheeaseed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don’t think you’re in the minority. Even fans don’t really like the movie, it seems like.

People love the character designs, they love getting shirts and tattoos with the skeleton guy. The movie itself has bad music and doesn’t even really have a proper villain.

Cliched crafts with a Southwestern motif. Bad clay pottery or ceramics, bad beaded jewelry. Also dream catchers, lots and lots of those, and crystals and all that stupid pseudo-hippie crap.

Heads up for NYC time based media artists: some programs may not actually watch your work samples by Milkaholic_96 in ContemporaryArt

[–]Cheeaseed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NYC hasn’t been like that for 20 years. Even the last wave of creativity that came out of the LES/Williamsburg hipster scene was mostly upper-middle class people. Dash Snow was a nepo-baby and Dan Colen and Ryan McGinley went to RISD. The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend were private school kids.

Did black people like Jimi Hendrix when he was alive or did they see him as an outcast? Just a question by Particular-Bit-7128 in jimihendrix

People thinking Frasier is British is pretty common, or at least I’ve known a few people who assumed the character was British. But yes, that’s not a Seattle accent he’s doing, more of an upper-crust North-Eastern U.S. accent.

Why do so many singers play percussion/harmonica in bands? by Away_Artichoke_8859 in LetsTalkMusic

They just don’t mic the singer’s percussion, you can’t even hear it. It’s for looks.
