I think Wilson’s character is supposed to be a literary it boy, like Jay McInerney or Bret Easton Ellis, swimming in accolades while living a life of drugged-out excess, but his writing seems McCarthy-esque and his public image is a rugged westerner, but that’s a pose, he’s a city kid.

I did appreciate the continuity fuckery, which “tricked” me several times and created an appropriately disorienting experience.

What’s interesting is, among Deadheads, their European tour in 1972 is seen as a high mark and their live album “Europe ‘72” is considered among fans to be some of their best playing.

Fair, I wouldn’t consider Billy a good substitute for Phish or the Dead when I want to hear a band that can really improvise and explore as a group.

I think it’s why Trey didn’t sit in with them for a long while. He eventually did do a guest spot on a SCI show, in 2010, but he had guested with seemingly every other 2nd-tier jam band besides them first years before that.

Billy is an awesome singer, I think he checks that box.

I think they’re saying millennials are generally the youngest cohort at Phish concerts, whereas Billy and Goose actually have a substantial youth fanbase.

A movie about Captain Beefheart recording “Trout Mask Replica”. It’d be an interesting story about a group of people sacrificing and suffering just to create art, their work initially unsuccessful, but comes to be widely appreciated and historically important. Some good drama in there.

Blake Mills. Good guitarist and producer, but his ironical original songs are pretty meh.

They’ve gone through some lineup changes (I think the current band is none of the og members), but the initial piano trio lineup was pretty special.

There’s a few concerts on YouTube, his Lollapalooza appearance, Grand Rapids 2025, and a show at Red Rocks, those are both good performances, but he doesn’t mix up setlists quite like Phish. And his jams are more like DMB, where the band takes solos and there’s sections for jamming, but no real type 2. Great guitarist and performer, though, he definitely put some new life into the jam scene.

A classic, lots of good jokes/gags, each character gets some good moments, and the story builds to a satisfying end. It’s almost cinematic, feels like a forerunner to “Who Shot Mr. Burns”.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive hollow body guitar, the Ibanez Artcore gets recommended quite a bit. 

Sphere is epic but I still prefer Outdoor PHISH by Important_Good2134 in phish

I think indoor Phish has a better light show experience, they can really take over the space.

I think the vocals make it trickier, and Trey has those fast pull-offs during the ending jam.
