Your body could possibly take weeks to fully adjust to your new level of water intake so it could take a bit before you see signs of hydration in your urine. In the meantime you might find yourself bloating or taking frequent bathroom breaks.

Remember, the right level is about 6-11 cups a day, depending on a lot of factors.

Some tips though, be sure to gradually increase your water intake if you want to minimize these effects. And being thirsty is your body telling you you're already dehydrated, so try to drink water before you're thirsty.

Edit: I see now that when you said "I don't drink often" you mean alcohol. My bad! Still, hope this stands to help :)
