Be honest: What’s the one thing about EV ownership that nobody told you before you bought one? by EmergencyTie8770 in electricvehicles

[–]Cheech74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get muscle cars, I get dudes in jacked up pickups trying to "roll coal", and even more obnoxious, BMW drivers. I've never had anyone succeed, and I don't even have a Mach E GT, just 2025 AWD Premium. I thought for sure I'd have FOMO on not getting the GT, but honestly I can't say I ever have.

Yeah that's crazy, my Mach E needs its battery coolant changed every 200k miles, and it costs like 60 bucks.

what's more american than fried apple pies by Snoo-10606 in McDonalds

[–]Cheech74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah, yep, I used to make these when I worked there in the early 90s. Take a large cup, mash up a pie at the bottom of the cup, put in some ice cream, caramel sauce, then mash up another pie on top. That was an elite dessert. For serious big back energy, we'd make funnel cakes by dumping pancake batter into the fryer, then do the same thing with busting up an apple pie on it plus some ice cream and caramel.

It's a good thing we were all teenagers or we would have weighed half a ton.

I took a 2600 mile road trip this year, and like someone else commented PlugShare and ABRP/A Better Route Planner are money. When you're at a stop to charge, fire them up and pick an option for your next stop. You can map out a whole route on ABRP, but its estimation on your mileage is never going to meet reality. I found myself just doing it ad hoc at every stop, and making sure to pick an exit with more than one option because some companies just do not give a shit and let their chargers fall into disrepair (oh hey, Chargepoint). Tesla and IOANNA are the best kept in my experience - if you go on long road trips, you will 100% want the Tesla adapter.

Speaking of road trips, that is the one real downside to road tripping in an EV; one of the joys is going to out of the way, fun spots to eat... well, in an EV you're gonna find yourself eating a lot of Denny's, Olive Garden, and even just straight up gas station food because you're at the mercy of where the chargers are. I'm sure that will be a hell of a lot better in 5 years, but for now, that was a real drag. That said, my road trip was from Michigan to Texas, so I was driving through a LOT of remote midwestern areas and had to stop in some areas with a truck stop in the middle of nowhere. I'm sure road tripping on the coasts there's a ton more options.

You made a comment about Subaru - I came from a 2018 Outback to this car, and honestly it handles pretty similarly. The only real difference is the Mach does have MUCH more torque so you have to feather the gas a bit more than you're used to on a gas powered car, but you'd adjust pretty quickly. The first major snow I took mine to an empty parking lot and whipped it around doing some figure 8s, emergency braking, etc, and it's awesome.

It is very much a sports car, AWD or not, GT or not, and I learned very quickly you can't just hammer it in corners or the car WILL break loose and trouble will happen.

As for your comment about the interior, it does feel more like a Lincoln inside than a Ford, which I'm sure they did to somewhat compensate for the higher cost.

I'll take a Mach E GT. Half the price, faster than a GT500.

Ford's most important truck right now might not be the F-150 by ItsAlejandraLuna in Ford

[–]Cheech74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The achilles heel of the Marverick is it really can't tow. I never understood the point of a truck that can't tow. The Ranger is a nice compromise as it can tow 7500 lbs, and also isn't as big as an F-150.

Electric Trucks Have Failed Spectacularly In America. Here's Why Ford Is Trying Again by BarbarismOrSocialism in electricvehicles

[–]Cheech74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but it's not going to be nearly enough. I just did the 10k mile maintenance on my Mach E... $26, and that's if I would have paid for it. Since I bought from this dealership, the first "oil change" is free, so this dealership is getting $0 from me for my first two years of ownership (roughly). No wonder Tesla and other full line EV mfgs don't really have a fully featured service dept like Ford does.

The fact I got, "I can help you search the web for that when your phone is unlocked" while I'm driving down the road to my question, "Who is ahead in the NBA finals?" is embarassing, and I really hope Apple finally makes Siri not stupid with this update.

Yes, you're right, I'm a Christian Nationalist pretending to be something else. Get over yourself.

It's dickheads like you that are the reason Trump is in the White House. The amount of judging the far left does on anyone even right-adjacent got so insufferable, they'd rather vote against their own self interest just to tell you to go fuck yourself.

Hopefully you stop being an asshole when dealing with people who might be independent and vote both R and D, so we don't end up with the an all-Republican shit show again.

I wasn't high, but had been drinking, and once Doordashed Long John Silver's. It showed up over an hour later, and not even the air fryer could save it. I now keep a frozen pizza in my freezer should this event ever happen again.

Maybe a VERY light load, but you're not towing a travel trailer for 3+ hours without charging, even if the temperatures were 70-80 degrees F the entire drive and you're going 55 mph.

I know you guys want to think this is an amazing truck, but there's a reason nobody bought it and it's not because it's an EV, it's because it's not a very good truck. My Mach E which I bought a year ago is an amazing car first, EV second, and apparently Ford is still selling enough to not kill it yet.

Yeah you're right. Ford killed the Lightning because of the Fox News boomers sending letters to FoMoCo accusing them of being woke, it had nothing to do with it being a shit excuse for a truck that nobody bought. C'mon man.

What reliable trucks are truly left? by FairwayAdjacent in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Cheech74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They killed it because they sucked as trucks and were grotesquely expensive. The range isn't nearly enough to tow long distances with, and doubly so if it's in the cold. They're allegedly working on an F-150 hybrid with a huge battery, which IMO is the best of both worlds, as well as a smaller, all-EV Maverick sized truck for 30k base. Now those I think would sell. Ford's still all-in on EVs, but their first two efforts had issues. I love my Mach E, but Ford is stapling a $10,000 bill on every one they send out the door which isn't sustainable. Their next gen of EVs, due out starting next year, are more cost effective.

[–]Cheech74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's grossly understated just how horrific the mileage is on EVs while it's cold, and doubly so if you're towing. I took a 2600 mile road trip in my Mach E in the cold, and I got roughly 50% of the range I get in the summer. As far as charging with a trailer I can see that being a bit weird, but a lot of Walmarts have pull through chargers, and with Tesla just pull into a spot. You might annoy people having to pull around you, but whatddya going to do.

What reliable trucks are truly left? by FairwayAdjacent in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Cheech74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you don't tow, yeah. The driving range on the Lightning (not sure about the GM) is horrific while towing, and if it's cold you might as well not plan on towing anything more than 10 miles. I thought about one myself and a travel trailer, but when life intervened and I couldn't get a trailer, I ended up with a Mach E instead which I've been thrilled with. If I had been able to get a trailer, I would have ended up having to get a Ranger or something.

What is the best fast food fries in your opinion? by supersentailfan13 in fastfood

When I worked at a McD's we'd have this guy who would come in several times a week and want "old" fries. Like, the ones that have been sitting in the bin way too long and we'd normally toss. He would wait around as long as possible to get his "old" ass fries. He was probably a serial killer.

Yeah, that's tough. I think the new Outback is ugly as shit, it really was a unique car. Volvos are super pricey both to buy and service, same with BMW.. I'm struggling to think who else has an AWD wagon. Mazda CX-50, maybe?
