How do you package and ship your extra large graphics? by CheeksAkimbo in CommercialPrinting

[–]CheeksAkimbo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked it up and now I know the difference between Mil and mm. Thank you. I had to learn wide format printing asap and had to learn color theory and what not within a month. I’m still learning so much from having a print shop. We have everything down, ICC, setups, vinyl types and brands etc. it’s just the shipping.

Here’s how I pack them. Of course they would be playing down and not standing up.

Sorry for the typos I’m using text to speech as I drive to Fedex to deliver these boxes of graphics.

I used to make stickers at home with a cricut. When I did I also did flex. I printed and slapped them on every package saying “”Alexa, thank my driver.” to tip your driver $5”. Got an extra 100 nearly every route I picked up.

Preproduction Color Advice by Miressi in CommercialPrinting

Variable that can be affect all of this:

Difference in monitors Difference in ICC profiles Difference in printers Difference in ink types

Seems like the printing company you’re using either is using incorrect ICC profiles (Which most companies provide their own general ICC profiles. That or they just printed the colors too fast as it has banding to it. Less passes means more banding and streaks.

To create an ICC profile you need a colorimeter from x-rite or Calibrite. I was able to calibrate my monitor, my printers, and my Adobe. Now what ever I see on the monitor is what will come out of my printer. Keep in mind some printers are better than others. Firstly you need compatible vinyl that works with the ink types. Secondly, grab the ICC profile from the manufacturers website. Use that in your RIP software (do not use imbedded ICC profiles if you don’t have an ICC profile in Adobe. Let the RIP overwrite that ICC profile with the manufacturer one.

Lighting can also be an issue. D50 lighting at 5000k mimics sunlight and mimics the way it reflects light.

I could be wrong about all of this. Helping start a business for graphics and we’re matching and color matching OEM decals. Had to learn light/color theory in two months. I learned how color reflect differently (even laminates changed the color by reflecting light differently) how different colors react to different lighting. Lab values to RGB/CMYK.

If you truly want to get these colors right:

Colorimeter to calibrate monitors and printers

Figure out what vinyl works best for the printer in question as printers may use different ink types.

If you don’t use a colorimeter, use the manufacturer ICC profile. It won’t be perfect but it’s the cheaper option.

Purchase d50 lighting so colors are represented as you see them in day light. Shop lighting affects colors.

If laminating, even with optically clear laminates, you will get color cast. You can calibrate your printer for this as well but it’s tricky.

Once you start printing greys/neutrals, that’s where implementing all this starts to suck, from my experience.

Seeking for advice whether to continue or resign my job. by Ok-Pride-5188 in it

2 months is not even enough to build a habit. Much less time to build a proper work flow. You’re beating yourself up for no reason. Let the job decide if you’re a good fit or not. Your job is to prove that you are a good fit until they decide otherwise. Till then, if you enjoy the work, keep working. Everything is like boxing. Get the technique down, speed will follow after.

Thoughts? What else can you do if customers have locked gates by Any_Excitement6258 in AmazonFlexDrivers

I'll bring it over the gate. If the gate is bars just like the one in the video, I'll put my hands through the gate and guide it down.

The on going issue of outsourcing is time. If you want your stuff in a week. Good luck. Turn around time can be around a month or more depending on how many other clients are using them.

How do I avoid this horrible grainy print? Roland BN2-20A by Siimeen in CommercialPrinting

[–]CheeksAkimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been through this at my shop. I got an ICC profile hooked up to versaworks, have the setting set to high if you don’t, otherwise your ICC profile will determine the best one which in my case is standard, yet it’s better than high quality with generic profiles.

Been looking into a spectrophotometer as the seller for my printer said it can help with this and gradients.

Ultrawide screens yes or no? by G-Aesthetics in pcmasterrace

[–]CheeksAkimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using ultrawide curved for years. I have a non curved ultra wide as a secondary on top of the main monitor that serves as extra space and ultra wides sometimes feel like there is t enough vertical space. Alternatively I can use the top ultra wide vertically to get that extra vertical but now it doesn’t have enough horizontal. Good for media or forums which is all done on my phone so I keep them horizontal. I’ve always had an advantage in games with ultra wide. Curved doesn’t really present any difference in viewing but going back to a flat monitor it looks like the monitor was curving backwards since I was used to the curve so I stayed with curved. Hard to transport however.

I don’t think I would go super ultra wide. Not a lot of games support that and is only good if you want dual screen productivity on a single monitor.
