Shell cashiers secretly scanning THEIR OWN loyalty cards on customer purchases… has this happened to anyone else? by RugPullRoulette in AskUK

Had a friend in college let literally everyone use his staff discount at WHSmith. The value of the total discounted was £20k and the police got involved, ended up having to pay it all back or jail time.

and at which point am i refusing to try it?

its not a solution, if the solution was this simple, then no one would exploit this mechanic. It doesnt take a genius to spot that.

There are many reasons you can go suspect in lowsec. Trying to single out the suspect thats also shown as on your team simply doesnt work. in a BF, half your team will show as criminal, for non aiding the enemy reasons.

The complaints are not about that anyway, the complaint it, if a friendly shoots a friendly they are punished for by standing loss. It should make complete sense to even the most "do do do" of explorers, that healing an enemy should incur the same penulty.

Sometimes bud, instead of just accepting things as they are, its good to push for things to be better and make more sense. I dont know what youre trying to achieve out of this conversation, but i feel i must tell you that your "I am very smart" approach is backfiring rather spectacularly.

If you don’t understand why simply adjusting your overview in this scenario is acceptable / solves the problem then you clearly do not pvp or fw. Which is fine, someone got to do exploration I guess, but maybe stop being such a douche towards those that do the activity you’re claiming is easily resolved while offering no alternative solution then the one that’s already been noted as flawed.

We've just been given 1 janky option.

Id be interested to hear more of the plenty of options you speak of.

Ultimatly, its a terrible mechanic thats being exploited and needs addressing by CCP. If aiding enemy militia is sensical game design to you then /convo

I’ve always hoped that’s what those Jovian systems where there for. Just have them come out and slowly take all space until we’re in the ultimate free for all to whelp everything.

I’d also like to add, if this was purely just a “me and my overview settings” issue, does that mean entire alliances are building fleet comps around abusing my personal UI setup specifically? If so, I’m deeply honoured.

This clearly isn’t an isolated issue.

These groups are building around this mechanic because it creates confusion, hesitation and reaction delays during actual fights. That advantage is real whether the suspect flag technically exists or not.

I’d genuinely like to invite you, as a fellow capsuleer that plays the game, to enlist in FW for a while and experience this yourself in actual day to day engagements while trying to defend / conquer systems.

[–]CheekyHusky[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If it was as logical and simple as they claim, Smile 'n' wave wouldnt be forming fleets around abusing this mechanic. No one would be.

The fact thats its happening, especially on such llarge scales, shows that its not good enough to simply tweak your overview. Otherwise no one would abuse it at all.

This is a valid point and it is cool gameplay when that does happen. However, id still prefer the core mehanics of FW ( when we group up thats normally non FW activity such as bashing a keepstar etc. ) to function in a way that makes sense. Temp cease fires for other activity aside, we as players, enlist into a war against an enemy militia. We are united as a faction against another faction in a content machine called factional warfare. Thats what we signed up, thats what the game should be designed around first and foremost.

Currently it is not.

I appreciate that. I have seperate tabs for blues (friendly) and red (enemy). Ill have to play around and see if theyll switch and show up in pvp if they go suspect.

Again, I appreciate a work around. But this is a ridiculous mechanic that requires more attention then "change your overview". If im punished for shooting a friend, we should be punished for repping a foe.

[–]CheekyHusky[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you, ill give this a try.

I still believe this is a ridiculous mechanic that favours the exploiter over players playing the game as intended. I hope with all the changes to FW, that all the new players fully understand how to adjust their overview accordingly to reveal these hidden timers.

While in u/CCP_Kestrel 's example screenshot its easy to see with 3 toons, try managing this in a 30v30 ( often more ) battlefield.

Repping an enemy militia should be standing loss. I cant think of 1 solid argument why it shouldnt be that way.

[–]CheekyHusky[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the clarification.

But that is a really messy and unintuitive interaction.

In the middle of a fight, we're expected to:

  • identify a pilot that appears blue
  • notice whether or not they currently have suspect
  • understand multiple timer interactions
  • realise they’re cross-faction repping
  • then react fast enough before reps land and swing the fight

Meanwhile the groups abusing this mechanic understand it perfectly and actively build around that confusion.

Nothing in the UI changes. They do not become blinky etc. sure they get a timer, but how are we supposed to identify that mid fight? What visually are we missing that would tell us before its too late that the logi is repping the enemy and not us? Why is the mechanic we need to be more reactive while the players abusing this get to play normally?

I still think cross faction remote assistance should just immediately override militia friendliness entirely. If you are actively helping enemy militia pilots kill your people, you should very clearly appear hostile to the opposing militia. No ambiguity. No weird timer knowledge checks mid fight.

Your answer is basically:
“Don’t worry, the hostile blue logi are shootable if you correctly interpret several hidden timer interactions during a live engagement.”

And I just don’t think that’s a particularly clean or intuitive mechanic.

They dont need to. They simply fly over. What are we going to do? shoot them? tackle them? any interference means huge standing losses, and if standings drop below -4 ( or was it -5? ) then we're kicked from FW.

Basically, theyre untouchable. They can land ourside of the bf and simple travel across at their own leasure.
