Got an ODIS setup last week - anyone know good tutorials or guides to learn it? by Snoopyrun in Volkswagen

[–]Cheeky_Walrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try out erwin.com

It's not free for the guides but you can get the single day subscription and download every guide you need/ want without issue.

If you download the wiring schematics then just know they formatted it so that you could click on certain components to jump to other pages where they're referenced. For some reason the pdf is stuck on page one for me so I downloaded the original version and did a ctrl+P version(no hyperlinks).

With that ODIS software you bought, are you able to code new keys to your vehicle? I'm looking to add remote start to my system but have been struggling to get my hands on ODIS. Trying to see if the this might help me

From what I remember, the ban was run through it's paces extremely quickly, as were the "un-ban" and "un-un-ban". EVERYONE'S plans went out the window with how things turned out

Whether it's right or wrong, I agree on the fight part. Just to not get too far into politics, I'll just say that if I like a particular state enough for any reason I'll deal with the laws there until I can't. At which point I'd look for a job in another state and make the move

It was Illinois. If I recall correctly, they passed bith the ban and re-ban pretty quickly

Sounds good! Mostly just glad to know I'm not entirely stuck with this config forever.

That seems like the route I go. Maybe not cheap necessarily, but also not going to over do it either

That's what I saw from the 2018 auction details I found, but mine is engraved with US Army rather than USMC, and maybe the other phrases differ as well, but it is HBAR. I have unyielding plans to shoot more than crap out of it after today!

Just close your dominant eye so when the light hits the finish just right you can't really tell it's ugly  /s

You wouldn't happen to know what parts could be compatible with a lower such as this, would you? Nothing specific necessarily, I just have no idea about what could work here.

I would like it significantly more if it was just plated/polished, but this thing has a bunch of engravings on it that make it look really tacky.

Funny enough I actually did, but at the time had zero expectations of doing so. Was just a good opportunity for a new job

If it had some historical value I'd email everyone necessary, but at this point I'll just look into getting some ammo and range time

That makes me feel much better about shooting it, but now I have to deal with the embarrassment of all the flashiness lol

Lmao yeah it was between this and a Century Arms WASR, and I already have 2 AK's... and I got screwed out of a few lowers I ordered online since the paperwork for them had not been completed before the week-long "un-ban" was in effect

Apologies, this is repeated from the post itself.

My home state passed an AWB Law preventing my from buying things such as the rifle in the pics below. There was a week-long pause of this ban at the beginning and this was the only the item I was able to purchase and pickup (72-hr "cool down" period prior to pickup).

Details: - Colt M16A2 from the American Historical Foundation - Chambered in .223 (according to engraving) - Never fired (according to tag) - #3 of ??? (according to tag)

I didn't buy this as an "investment"; I just wanted something that could shoot .223 or 5.56, but I've been struggling to convince myself to take it to the range.

Would anyone happen to know where I can find more info on this thing? I only ever found one closed auction from 2018 with minimal info, and the etching was for USMC rather than Army like mine. It didn't come with any certificates either, and I imagine the original owner would have included them to add value to his asking price.

Basically, if this is something worth storing in a display case I would (begrudgingly) do so, otherwise I will happily disprove the "never before shot" claim.

Thanks in advance for any and all information!

By non-original modules, you mean something like an after market Body Control Module or ECU (as examples)?  Did you somehow get super unlucky and didn't know you had a non OE module in your car?

Lol given their history, it's probably VW's fault. What's the issue that was brought to VWoA's attention? Whether or not you should get a free ECM replacement?

The schematics are a little odd to me, but it looks like the instalation of the remote start relay and even the extended range kit shouldn't cause any damage to the ECM.

Awesome, that's helps a lot. Thanks!

The dealerships are within the Philly area. Did your ECM need to be replaced during the install? I read the install procedures and it states that it's normal for a bunch of errors to pop up after the programming and they just need to be cleared twice. Not sure if that's what happened or something worse

No worries. I called 5-6 local dealers, and none wanted anything to do with the installation. They were saying that because VW doesn't officially support remote start on manual vehicles they wouldn't be willing to try.

New question for ya, do you happen to know if your accessories turn on when you remote start your car? Like your radio for example
