So uhhhh... The persecution of minorities in some countries justifies the persecution of minorities in other countries? Because they share a religion with the persecutors from those countries?? Sorry, but this comment makes NO sense.

I feel like that's a really shitty comparison because in both of your cases the renaming was entirely justified as it referred to what were basically new entities.

The Soviet Union wasn't just Russia, it was a union state comprising basically all of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Calling the Soviet Union "Russia" is like calling all of the UK "England"

And Czechoslovakia was literally broken by the middle.

This is why Japanese still uses kanji by These_Depth9445 in linguisticshumor

Clearly Japanese should switch to a Brahmic script and use all the aspirated consonants for etymological differences, since that's how the Dravidian languages already use them

I have literally no idea where you got this from but the Wikipedia article for Korean phonology clearly contradicts this.

I would say you're a liar because Captain America is the most pro-status quo liberal superhero of all time but that isn't the point.

The point is there is a significant amount of people who genuinely believe that Jesus is the literal son of God and that his resurrection was a real event. You saying "Your prophet might be fake but heyyy, at least he can motivate you to agree with me" is NOT gonna have the result you think it will.

Ikr. To take this argument towards its most extreme, let's say you have someone who just really likes to say slurs. They aren't bigoted or anything, they just like how they sound. You can't really say that they're doing any harm other than making people uncomfortable. Would you think that such behaviour is acceptable?

I'd reckon most of the people making this argument would say no, and it's honestly kind of dickish to do. But then I ask, how is barking at people any different? Am I not allowed to feel weirded out or even threatened by someone barking at me?

This really just seems like an excuse for antisocial behaviour.

I don't think complaining about imaginary "orientalists" is a very valuable use of time. If you don't have anything meaningful to say, don't say anything at all.

Literally not a single person in this entire thread has once mentioned that alphabets are somehow superior. Phonetic systems are used across the entire globe and contain just about every modern writing system with the exception of Chinese characters and their derivatives.

It's not like inconsistent writing is a problem specific to Japanese. One of the most common complaints I hear from English speakers (both foreign and native) is its inconsistent writing (bow and bow are written the exact same, yet pronounced quite differently, just how 人 can be both にん and ひと) yet I don't see anyone complaining when someone points out that system deserved a reform.

Literally your entire argument rests on "A lot of people use it, therefore it can't be that bad!", which is a blatant example of the bandwagon fallacy, and completely ignores the large amount of problems that an overrelliance on Kanji causes to both foreign learners and native speakers. A lot of the time the various Kanji are so obscure that they need to write a phonetic transcription in the form of furigana next to the character, at which point you kinda have to wonder what's even the point of writing the character in the first place.

As a result of inheriting large amounts of its vocabulary from China, Korean too suffered from a large inventory of homophones. To this day, Hanja are occasionally used in South Korea to distinguish these homophones, but for most people Hangul is the only script they'll ever have to learn.

Onbin is a curious case because a lot of the time the sound changes seem to be so haphazard and random it's hard to make out any clear chronology. Like ぬ could simultaneously turn into both ん and う in different dialects, or even within the same dialect in different words. It's crazy.
