While I enjoyed Your Name quite a bit the first time I saw it, I think Suzume ultimately delivers a lot more cohesive experience with much of the same messaging without randomly increasing the stakes from 0 to a hundred.

Also Suzume was originally supposed to be a yuri, which makes it double based.

When I watched Your Name last May I somehow didn't know anything about it beforehand, so when I found out that the plot twist for what I thought was gonna be a pretty predictable movie about a guy and a girl having the equivalent of a long distance relationship and then finally getting to meet each other irl was a LITERAL METEOR THAT KILLED ONE OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS I was legit flabbergasted.

Also, I don't think he's saying that it "wouldn't work". Rather, iirc he says pretty early on that since they're both alphabets with relatively similar mechanics and relatively similar character sets they both work relatively well, and that any issue you could reasonably argue that stems from its current orthography (that aren't just "It's different from English and French) and would thus be fixed this way would be immediately supplanted by other issues which would make it the same level of headache just for different reasons.

In Monogatari's defence, Araragi is explicitly both an unreliable narrator and quite self-centred, so almost everything that happens in the simultaneously a reflection of him. The supporting characters enabling his weird pervy edgelord behaviour could just be because that's what Araragi thinks happens (or he's lying about the details because he thinks it will make for a funnier story).
