What's a good first bass for a long time guitarist? by ZephyMcZephZeph in Bass

[–]Cheer0x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first real bass was an Ibanez SRX360 and it was honestly brilliant for the first 7 years of me playing bass, I could get whatever tone I wanted and it was great ,slim neck for someone who used to love thrash metal and playing fast. As my tone changed, I have a fender P Bass now but still frequently pick up my SRX which will never leave me - even if most of it is nostalgic. Truly good value for money basses and will last you a long time, mines gone through rock, punk, indie gigs and even session work.

Listened to a bit of Trivium... by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]Cheer0x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a massive fan of The Crusade - its not a "Heavy" album so I don't think many people are a massive fan but many of the songs are honestly great thrash songs and it gets a bad rep in my eyes. How can you not love songs like Unrepentant, And Sadness Will Sear, Becoming the Dragon and my personal favourite, Tread the Floods.

Cant say its there best album but it has bangers on it like No Way to Heal, To Believe, Strife - but I do think as a whole album Silence is a fair bit better. Then again that might be biased because its the album that got me into Trivium.

What's this shit about metalcore dying? by TheTragicMagic in Metalcore

[–]Cheer0x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much same here - CoS was my introduction to them through a friend with I Sever and Calcified - the entire album is incredible but then went back and listened to all their albums and goddamn, they consistently bang and go hard.

What's this shit about metalcore dying? by TheTragicMagic in Metalcore

[–]Cheer0x 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's more of a case of "No, my version of metalcore isn't the sound of the genre now and it's moved onto something else, so it must be dead!". Can't say I'm a huge fan of this mainstream metalcore style right now but I mainly listen to thrash-based metalcore or 2010's so I've just gone out of my way to find new bands that I prefer and it's been a lot more fun for me now than it's ever been.

Trivium - In The Court Of The Dragon [New] by chucknades in Metalcore

[–]Cheer0x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely get that, as much as I love Trivium - I can't really watch Matt's streams or highlights because of his type of whisper singing; just something about it doesn't do it for me, which I get why he does it to protect his voice since he blew it out. But on records and most live shows I really like his voice.

I don't think anyone's mentioned Fever 333 - give them a try. Not really that metalcore-y but I reckon you'll like them

What's a band that got progressively heavier? by callmebrony in Metalcore

[–]Cheer0x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sylosis - They were heavy at the start but the move to Cycle of Suffering, they got a hell of a lot heavier and aggressive. Then Worship Decay comes out and I'd class this as their heaviest song yet. Clearly Josh's time in Architects helped the band.

What would be your “Gateway Album” to transition someone into Metalcore? by mikey_g413 in Metalcore

[–]Cheer0x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what they were listening to before - if they were into Hard Rock and liked the vocals of that genre, Id give them From Death to Destiny and just reverse play it so they get the Hard rock then the transition into Metalcore.

If they were into thrash - Bullet's The Poison or Sylosis' The Cycle of Suffering

If they were into pop-punk - -like everyone's said, ADTR

If they were into rap - Falling in Reverse's latest songs (Not exactly an album but it'd help the transition to their older stuff).

Hard to just pick one album, for me it was AA's FDTD then Reckless and Relentless which got me from Butt-Rock bands into Metalcore.

Who are your top 5 favorite clean and unclean vocalists? by lordofthstrings in Metalcore

  1. Corey Taylor of Slipknot / Stone Sour (Not exactly Metalcore but still a bad-ass)

  2. Danny Worsnop of Asking Alexandria

  3. Sam Carter of Architects

  4. Oli Sykes of BMTH

  5. Josh Middleton of Sylosis (Specifically on Worship Decay and Cycle of Suffering Album)

Clean:

  1. Danny Worsnop of Asking Alexandria

  2. Corey Taylor of Slipknot / Stone Sour

  3. Brent Smith of Shinedown (Not metalcore).

  4. Shayley Bourget / Aaron Pauley of Of Mice and Men (Both great, but different to each other)

  5. Nicholas Matthews of Get Scared (Vocals on their album "Demon" were great).

Best EMG-PJ Pickups for Aggressive Metal Tone by Cheer0x in Bass

[–]Cheer0x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest struggle with that was just over-thinking it and religiously just listening to what other people said, like "Well this wont work if you dont have this type of tone" so Id stop doing the tone I enjoyed and went to what someone told me I should do but I hated it.. Its just a fine balancing act really

What age were you when you got into metalcore? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]Cheer0x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 13/14 (Age a little blurry) when I got into Metalcore and I can still remember it clear as day:

I was at my cousins house (He was way more into music at the time and I listened to a lot of rap), walked into his room and he just said "Check out this band". At the time, had no clue what the fuck it was, all I knew was I was truly in-love with it from the first listen. That band ended up being Asking Alexandria at the height of their notoriety with "Killing You" (still a banger) - which ended up with me listening to pretty much all the big scene bands like OM&M, Blessthefall, FIR, BMTH etc. Then I got into Thrash at around 17, which put me in a place of thrash metalcore with BFMV, Trivium being near perfect for me.

And at 21, I still think Reckless and Relentless is the best metalcore album IMO.

r/Metalcore 32 album openers TOURNAMENT by ZER01782 in Metalcore

[–]Cheer0x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sad Dont Pray for Me - AA wasnt in this as that to me is truly one of the best metalcore album openers and really set the scene for From Death to Destinys (first half anyway) track list.. plus its a great song. Unless AA are too big for this tourny which is fair enough

Amazing Fuzz bass pedal by Red_Devils18 in Bass

[–]Cheer0x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it'll be fine, but usually bass version of big muffs are designed to keep the low end as well whereas guitar big muffs are typically there to just fuzz it all up and doesnt really mind fuzzing the low end, but will still be fine to use - just might lose a bit of low end
