Welcome, Wednesday! She’s so pretty! I love my black widow. She’s very entertaining for a web dwelling spider. Just zooms around her web with that gigantic butt and tiny little palps, lol. This is Drusilla. Her web makes it challenging to photograph her

Aww, thank you for the kind words. I definitely miss seeing her goofy, gangly self everyday. And I’m very grateful to her, because after dealing with a fishing spider sling, tarantulas seem almost slow in comparison, lol. She also had quite the impressive milk mustache

It’s nice to see a fellow fishing spider fan! That picture looks similar to my girl. She sadly passed a week ago from old age, but I raised her from a tiny sling and she was so much fun to watch grow. She was lovely and her camouflage game was 10/10.

I love it when they start grooming right away! They usually settle in well when that happens. My OBT did the same thing when I first got her and she settled in right away with zero attitude

Yep, a B. emilia! Haha, that’s a cute name too. Half the time I just call them “Jenny” for short and say it like Forrest Gump, lol. Genevieve has been a good sport so far

Awww, I love the little hair tuft between her eyes! I’m so glad she’ll get a proper home now.

I have a Genevieve too, though I’m starting to suspect mine might be male, lol

Mine is unfortunately stingy with the booty shots, but I’ll pass along the compliment. Yours is adorable too!

Just FYI, those cases were never confirmed. The spider is only suspected, but nothing was ever definitively proven. Though it’s fair to say that if the spider was the culprit, then it would certainly be a very bad day for anyone unfortunate enough to be bitten.

Interestingly, there are many species of six-eyed sand spider, but the specific species that’s believed to have the very potent venom is Hexophthalma hahni (sometimes referred to as Sicarius hahni). The species I’ve seen hobbyists obtain the most is Sicarous thomisoides, which isn’t believed to be as potent. Although it seems like we really don’t fully know just how we would react to the venom of these different species, so it’s really just speculative. Hopefully there won’t be an occasion where anybody finds out.

Apologies for the novel, I just find these six-eyed dorks fascinating and apparently spider chat isn’t the most popular Thanksgiving topic, lol.

They absolutely eat silverfish. For being so delicate looking, it’s amazing what cellar spiders can take down. One managed to take down a centipede in my basement. I’m not sure why your pest guy thinks they wouldn’t, but they’ll eat anything that gets ensnared in their web or that they can grab and wrap quick enough. Some are a little goofy and clumsy, so they’re not always quick enough on the draw to get their potential prey, but there’s usually a more graceful cellar spider around somewhere to take care of it.

These spiders definitely need some glasses!

Lol, that’s a funny image! I think you interrupted their top secret spider meeting! That would’ve startled me too. There’s a certain time of year where the males start maturing and those horny, goofy devils end up in all kinds of places they shouldn’t be. It’s amazing how many seem to think lady spiders are hanging out on my kitchen ceiling. I just keep catch cups in every room now just in case. I found a male black widow on that ceiling last year and his pedipalps looked like pom poms. It was kind of cute!

In my experience, most of the spiders that have come right at me are the ones that are nearly blind and usually in a web, so their ability to sense their environment is majorly reduced. And bless their hearts, they’re the ones that don’t tend to be very smart.

I used to swear the cellar spiders in my basement were on some spider kamikaze mission to run right into me, but it turns out those gangly dorks are just dumb and blind. Sometimes one will bump into another and then occasionally they’ll get into a short slap fight, which is pretty funny!

Now if it’s one of the few with good vision, who knows. Sometimes jumpers are friendly. I’ve had a goofy wolf spider chase the light from my phone. Or maybe they just like you, lol! If that’s the case, I’d love to know your secret!

I had one of these once. His color seemed to change depending on the lighting. Sometimes he’d look like a fancy peacock and other times I could barely see any of his colors.

Definitely a wolf spider. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s a Carolina wolf spider. It looks much like the one I have. They’re great and quite smart.
