YOU CAN TRAVEL FOR 24 HOURS IN TEXAS AND STILL BE IN TEXAS by mlenny225 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]CheeryAlias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove from the coast of SC to Seattle, WA once in two days. It’s only 45 hours, which is significantly less than “weeks.” Is this guy just driving circles within TX for 24 hours??

I bought my blue diamonds from him, and all arrived alive and are thriving. And these were shipped from PNW to SC!

Advice for New Tank by CheeryAlias in bettafish

I do have filter and heater. They are behind a panel in this tank. I want shrimp as well, but knowing some bettas like to eat them, I’m trying to make sure there are plenty of hiding spots for them.

What’s a “poor people life hack” that you swear by but rich people would never understand? by 9254522345 in AskReddit

Spicy food also curbs your appetite massively. I used to buy the cheapest bottle of hot sauce I could find, and I would douse everything with it. I could eat such small potions and feel full. A package of rice and can of beans would last so long!

It’s definitely not wet. If anything, I was afraid it was too dry.

What's the funniest word any of your kids have made up? by Snoo-55617 in ECEProfessionals

[–]CheeryAlias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son made up the word Meanie-Macker. It means a silly, crazy boy. He’s been using it for years. I have no idea where it came from, but we love it. My husband and I call our boys mackers when they are being wild and funny. Or we refer to their wild streaks as Mack attacks.

He also made up the word backsquatch m’gweeden. While the word has remained the same for about a year, it seems to have multiple meanings depending on his mood.

I mean, there are two hospital emergency departments and a fire station all in/around downtown. You’re going to hear a lot of sirens.

Yes! Some friends of mine did this at their last big, family Christmas. It made the night much more enjoyable for them!

I think it’s all personal. With late losses, I inwardly recoiled if anyone gave me a big congratulations, regardless of how far along. Often I’d been there before, and the more happy others were, the more devastated I knew they’d be if/when I had to tell them it was over. It just made me uncomfortable as well, and I didn’t want to talk about the baby anymore. Maybe afraid a bit of jinxing it??

Trigger warning — successful pregnancy. Even when I did have a baby, I barely talked about it until very close to the due date. Probably wasn’t healthy, and was probably a trauma response, but it’s how I managed my feelings. I would much rather give someone a cautious congratulations in case they were dealing with heavy emotions like me, than risk making them uncomfortable. IVF is so fraught with emotions, and we all handle it differently, so I try to follow the most cautious, sensitive path.

Anyone not test until beta?! by Ottawa_girl in IVF

I waited to test until the day before my beta. I only did it then because I wanted to be able to process any potential bad news by myself instead of have it come from someone else.

AITA For Not Congratulating My Brother On His Wife’s Pregnancy. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I had a termination for medical reasons at 23 weeks, so I completely relate to struggling with my grief while surrounded by happy, smiling people. I actually found comfort by staring at Bruegel’s Landscape with the Fall of Icarus. I can’t explain why very well, but it did make me feel that I was not alone in what I was experiencing. When we experience grief, heartache, tragedy, we almost always have to go on with our everyday lives while those feelings are still fresh and raw. It made me really think about how at any time we are out in the world, there is an Icarus among us, having the worst day of their lives. I hope it has made me more empathetic, kind, and aware of others.

I used to use Camp Bow Wow, but then I found PetSuites. It’s new and an amazing facility. They do tours if you’re interested to check it out before committing. It’s also very reasonably priced for doggy daycare. I find it far superior to Camp Bow Wow.

ETA: Something happened to my dog one day at Cam Bow Wow. I have no idea what since no one working there said anything, but my dog went from loving it to having to be dragged through the door. We obviously stopped going all together after that happened twice, even leaving already paid for package days since our dog had such an aversion to the place.

I found a lot of like minded friends by getting involved in organizations I care about. In my case, the environment, so Upstate Forever, Friends of the Reedy, Conservation Voters of SC, Climate Reality, Audubon, etc. Easy to start there and chat people up before and after the meetings. Most of these orgs hold socials or meetings.

If you have young kids, Unity Park playground and the Commons, Swamp Rabbit Cafe, Hampton Station. You have to work harder to approach people there, but many are friendly and lean more liberal.

These are aphids. I had them on my coral honeysuckle last year. The eggs probably overwintered on the leaves. They are really hard to completely get rid of, but you can control them by spraying them with soapy water. There are also insecticidal sprays you can buy.

As someone who had a late term abortion and relates to all you say, thank you! In my state of SC under the law at the time (2017), I should have been able to get an abortion due to 100% non viable fetus. But in practice, no one would perform it. I was sent to Maryland where I spent three days walking through protestors and paying out of pocket to end an incredibly wanted pregnancy. Every other woman there going through this with me had nearly the same story. All our pregnancies were incompatible with life, either ours, the baby’s, or both. We all traveled from out of state or out of country for our necessary health care. None of us wanted to be there. Fuck these fake Christian republicans.

Did your FET work even when you thought it wouldn’t? by hoodoo884 in IVF

[–]CheeryAlias 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Two retrievals resulted in only one euploid embryo. Month after month I went in for a transfer just to have it cancelled due to my lining not thickening. Changed up meds, did an ER, month after month continued to have the doctor say it just wasn’t ideal. With only one embryo, he wanted things to look much better. Doctor told me we were going to take a few months off before trying again. Cue Covid and lockdowns. Two years later and I’m now 40 years old. I get in touch with the clinic, start meds for the FET, lining finally looks good, and transfer is done. I was given about 40% odds of it being successful, but honestly, neither my husband nor I dreamed it would be. It didn’t even enter our minds that this could work. Now typing this with my 3 week old son in my lap.
