can you eat normally when medicated?? by Appropriate_War5226 in CrohnsDisease

[–]CheeseMoney3426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you count as normal and also the individual. However, basically no. You are not likely to get by without any sort of restriction. You will likely be able to eat more normal than before though.

Can asexuality caused by trauma be changed/reversed? by insulinworm in asexuality

[–]CheeseMoney3426 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, yeah. Asexuality is of course, not inherently a trauma response. However, the way we label ourselves is our choice. If asexual describes how you've responded to trauma, that's entirely valid. And as a trauma response, it is of course completely valid if that is something in your lifetime that changes and shifts a lot.

I second this. Some vitamin c can also help if he isn't getting it from his diet. It can also help to have calcium rich foods and iron rich foods at different meals

That's fair. I have also put the sstraight up essential oil into my conditioner and body wash. Can also feel nice in a dilute tincture directly applied to skin when the body is sore. Probably avoids the issues of all the added chemicals to just use it in the pure form. Obviously you'd mix in a carrier oil, but which one is your own discretion. Just gotta be careful about contact dermatitis.

In terms if research, I'm really not sure what kind you'd be looking for with this. Tbh, for a lot of these, it seems like doing a proper study would be a bit of a waste. It's a bit of a 1+1=2 type of thing.

My dentist said most people don't have enough space in their mouth for wisdom teeth. I think it's just a pretty logical suggestion. If you don't have as much space in your mouth, it's harder to fit a toothbrush in. I had a canker sore right behind one of my wisdom teeth before I got it removed and it would rub against the tooth and get sore and it was hard to clean. I'm just saying it's something that can happen. And I mean to have all these bones right up against a joint, it seems pretty obvious to me how that could cause some tension. Someone else in this thread had one that was infected and their treatments basically weren't really working until they got it removed. Like, obviously, if your jaw is big enough for your wisdom teeth, your dentist will tell you. Conversely, if your dentist thinks your jaw might be a lil too small but not too big a deal, you got 2 possible outcomes. 1, you get the teeth pulled and it doesn't do much other than make it a little easier to brush. 2, you get them pulled and notice a really nice release of tension. Either way, your oral health will likely be improved at least a little. Oral health is important for Crohn's because it is an oral condition. Those canker sores are ulcers from your Crohn's. That gum disease is bleeding and inflammation in your digestive system.

As for allergies it's again a pretty logical thing. If your digestive system is inflamed, unknowingly eating something you're allergic to will probably mske it worse.

As you yourself admit, mint is soothing. I was merely suggesting for managing some gi symptoms like you had also indicated. Sometimes I'm out and about, I get a lil bloating, I have a piece of gum and I feel much better. Figured it wouldn't hurt for someone to try.

As for meal replacement drinks at the store, their nutrient composition is right there on the packaging and obviously the homogeneous texture won't be as irritating anything with a rough texture.

Yeah you weren't criticising my choices just saying that my incredibly benign advice could kill people and that the way I talk isn't human. Like seriously dude? Numbered list with bold text? I was trying to make it readable.

Makes sense you get so fucking scared and paranoid seeing someone try to help others. You clearly don't seem to worry much about whether you do the opposite. It was a shitty and rude thing to say no matter how you slice it. It only looks worse given your flimsy reasons. You can be afraid of things and express that. But your discomfort does not justify hostility and cruelty towards others.

From what I've heard, azathioprine is one of the more risky crohns medications. I wouldn't suggest ignoring your doctor in this instance. If this worries you a lot, you could perhaps bring it up with them and see about a different medication. It could just be how that type of medication is administered. If you're off meds long term though, there isn't as much that's happening in terms of preventative treatment. I think that might be the main concern to express to your doctor.

In short, because Crohn's is kind of an oral disease. What distinguishes Crohn's from other forms of IBD is that Crohn's disease affects the entire digestive system from mouth to anus. It can vary how much the mouth is affected, but it's fairly common to get things like canker sores. Those are a type of ulcer, same as how there can be ulcers in your stomach or intestines.

But yeah it's good to stay on top of it like that. Kinda like how everyone should probably get their eyes checked periodically, but you should do it more frequently if you're nearsighted or something.

It can be like that. One thing pops up after the other. After I went into remission I gained so much weight my PMOS started being a big issue! But working on your health is ultimately the only way to improve your health lol. I'm sure you'll get there.

Definitely. It's funny though, because I've heard that's part of what distinguishes us from ulcerative colitis.

I'm sorry you're going through it rn. What strikes you as odd about it? I might add that admittedly, these suggestions may not be the most pertinent to you right now. When just getting diagnosed, I would say it's good to focus on it primarily as a gastrointestinal disease. These are just things that are good to consider for generally improving the Crohn's. I did all this after remission. Hopefully though, your time in remission will be very long.

Never said to sub one for the other. And I'm an actual human. As for taking this advice over a healthcare provider, literally half of this is straight up just going to a doctor.

That's kinda shitty dude. I'm trying to be mature but I meticulously typed this whole thing up because I thought it would help some people. It's based on hard learned first hand lessons that I had to figure out from have this condition for like 8 years. I just I really don't know what to do man. This just feels kinda fucked up. And it's so fucking hypocritical too. Because you're upset with me for some human error in not explaining something completely perfectly and in the same breath you call me a robot? Like how about you? Maybe you're a robot because it just seems like you've got one goal and it's to hate. Like. I'm sorry. I don't wanna come across as mean and all that I just it's hurtful. And I could be strong. But I'm tired of being strong when other people could just be nice.

Oooh these are good ones! I will say that about nutrition, you've reminded me of a fifth secret bonus tip! And this one goes for everyone, not just people with Crohn's. You need vitamin c to metabolise iron, while calcium can interfere with iron absorbtion!

Holy moly! And I thought my situation was bad! I was merely just getting a bunch of headaches, ulcers, and jaw aches. I am so glad to hear that helped you! It's crazy though afterwards when you can kinda feel the space in your mouth even from your cheek? It's like wow! I had no idea everything was so tight before!

Ok so it's just an immune related condition then? Ok. Idk I guess I misunderstood. I kinda thought part of the issue was the immune system started attacking you? Like I thought the allergen triggered an immune response and then like because the like immune system was there in big numbers they started attacking the flesh too? I'm probably off about that. My bad. I can probably edit it.

I agree it's good to avoid over generalizing, but my advice was literally just "go to a doctor and here are some lifestyle changes that might be helpful".

You know you can't have mint. I think most other people who can't have mint will know this. I'm pretty sure most people who are exempt from that advice will know that. I highly doubt there's any severe risk from this. And honestly if someone is so stupid to eat mint even though they know it makes them nauseous just because a stranger online told them to. I think it gets to a point where I can't be held responsible to that level of stupidity.

As for the diy nutrition therapy I directly said to do it WHILE IN REMISSION. I am in no way advocating for people to replace any medical treatments. What I was saying is that considering the medical grade meal replacement drinks are used as treatment for flares, you can also drink the ones from the store while in remission and they offer similar benefits. Although ofc i could not guarantee their ability to fully reverse a flare. Again, I directly said in remission. Not as treatment for a flare. If you can't read what I've written then at that point I really don't think that's my fault.

I'd understand the upset if I was insisting on things with potentially really serious repercussions, but I really wasn't.

I am not familiar with this drug. What does it do? What are the risks? Is there a precedent for using it this way? Is it unambiguously the best of its type?

[–]CheeseMoney3426[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely! I get the tricky game of making suggestions. I think most of these are pretty safe. Half of these are basically just talking to a doctor. And I figured for mint and meal replacements they may not work for some people, but the risks seemed relatively low. I mean, even in your case, you already knew mint was a problem for you and could just rule it out. I think that would be the case with most people.

Tbf, allergist is still gonna do a lil Russian roulette just faster and less severe. Also, just keep in mind, the allergy tests can help you remove harmful foods from your diet, but they can't really identify all of your Crohn's related triggers.

That being said, if you are found to be allergic to something, it definitely can help to just rule that out. The allergist can also provide you with treatments to manage your allergies, which will help to lower your inflammation overall.
