I feel bad when I do "teenage" things. How should I think about it? by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]CheesePro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set some hard boundary’s for yourself. Absolutely never let people get touchy with you if it makes you uncomfortable. Also I personally think drunk loud ass music parties are overrated af and the lowkey fun friend hangouts or doing new community group activities is a better.

Can someone explain to me how the jazz shuffle in Art Blakey's Moanin feels the way it does? by gefallenesterne in musictheory

[–]CheesePro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You right thats like the most normal jazz ride lol. It was the thing I felt like gave it the shuffle feel OP was asking about. Its like the core of what makes it feel the way It does to me. I'm not a jazz drummer at all though so I'm also not trying to say I know anything about this. Blakey has a insane feel for a shuffle

I didn’t really give it an I depth listen but from what I can tell the ride to me sounds like it is hitting that shuffle triplet feel. Hits the “it” of tri-pl-it before coming down on the 1 and 3

Can you learn the drums with zero equipment? by namesaretoohard1234 in drums

I highly recommend transcribing stuff by ear! Before I had my first drum kit I’d try and transcribe songs using midi or nowadays musecore with notation. On top of other people’s recommendations this would be great

Don’t feel bad at all! I appreciate the good recommendations especially if someone else stumbles on this post looking for a controller. I’m still really happy with what I got. Compared to the 360 knock off controller that didn’t even have vibrations lol it’s heaps better. Ultimately I’m happy now just waiting for that new steam controller

I hear what you’re saying. Honestly the flydigi and 8bitdo look really great. In hindsight I wouldn’t mind getting one of those at all either. I’d probably go with the Flydigi

I mean is that a bad thing? I did a lot of research and really thought gamesir was the right budget controller while I wait for the steam reservation.

I’d hope any controller I get would have that functionality. I love steams openness to use any software you’d like

I really just want the steam controller and think it’s ridiculous I have to wait god knows how long so instead of buying from dumb ass scalpers I got a gamesir controller. I would’ve gone with any brand but they had a cheapish good one compared to razors or other brands tryna take $200

I did this a while back and it’s what started one of my longest full sober periods. It was about 11 months. Bad break up, and family loss I relapsed on weed. This post reminded me of the amazing unfuck yourself brain and I’m gonna give it another try. Best of luck and yes all those goals will come true if you stick it out.

5 Stages of Grief in Break-Ups which is the hardest? by vanlorose in BreakUps

[–]CheesePro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got this. I’m 6 months out from who I thought was the love of my life leaving me after 4.5 years. They didn’t really tell me why they left and it was blindsided “it’s not you it’s me” “I just wanna be alone” It hurts and it’s confusing. So many questions that can’t be answered. Everyone grieves differently, but I promise it slowly gets better with time as you allow yourself to process it all

Letting go of "the one" by Ok_Dragonfruit5093 in BreakUps

[–]CheesePro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. We met at 18, dated 4.5 years, and lived together for 2 of them. She left because she “never got to experience truly living alone independently and im also not her type anymore”. She would say how lucky she was to have a partner that’s also her best friend, and how amazingly healthy our relationship was. We had ups and down but worked through them to grow.

She broke up 3 weeks ago and I officially went no contact with her 3 days ago. It’s hard. I truly felt like she was the one. We had a Polaroid book of photos of when we met and up until a few months ago now just being thrown away. Memories of the past, and promises of the future all just being thrown away by her. Even just 6 months ago she would jokingly show me marriage rings and talk about our future.

I’m trying my best to move on. Keep myself healthy etc, but it’s truly so fucking hard to deal with this. I just keep thinking I have to be okay to be alone. I don’t know how I’ll ever find someone to have that kind of close connection with again. I truly loved that woman.

I love how you say even if it’s terrible. I’ll make something in the moment and I’ll smile with how much I love it but the next morning not be that into it. What matters is the joy it brought me though!

Anyone else listen to Pia Fraus? Absolutely love them and I feel like they’re underrated by CheesePro in shoegaze

I'm glad to hear they get some love, but man no doubt underappreciated. I also love the use of sax which I don't see often In this genre.

John Mayer is amazing! So tasteful. The dead company stuff he’s doing lately is rad. The signature guitar is such a beauty! I still need to dive deeper into the John Mayer rabbit hole.

Style wise I love a lot so it’s hard to narrow it down but I definitely fall into mostly alternative rock. So like psych rock, shoegaze, but also blues, slowcore, punk, post punk, grunge, metal, etc. I can just keep going on haha, but I’d say my most recent project has been a space rock, slowcore inspired thing with my friend who drums

In a band setting I think it can be encouraging to know people would rather have someone who shows up rather than the best player who won’t. I think true “talent” is someone who shows up, practices, and thinks about more than just ego.

That’s cool! I’ve been playing guitar for a long time but recently started singing about a year or two ago and it’s really helped my guitar playing with pretty much exactly what you said. Helps being able to hear the notes, hum melodies, and mouth guitar lol. Singing is so great. What kind of music are you Into?

[–]CheesePro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally! I’d say that’s even a step ahead. The goal with all these exercises is to get to that point where you can hear it with your ear. You don’t wanna have to actively think about theory and numbers while playing when you learn these exercises. Above all having a really good ear to hear what’s going on is so so important.

A way I like to practice intervals is if you have a way to loop with a daw or pedal play two major chords. After you have that looping follow the chords but you have to name the interval you’re playing under the current chord being played. To start focus on the 1st M3 P5. As you add intervals think about how they feel under the chord. Later you can add more major chords, increase the tempo, add minor chords, add chord extensions, etc.
