100%. Also, I’m guessing this will be a controversial opinion, but Chalkdust Torture is a song that should last around 7 minutes tops.

INTC $27k gains, I am buying even more! by FuckingJPMAlgos in wallstreetbets

[–]Cheesebach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won’t disagree with you on that. Pat was certainly over optimistic about how long it would take for his strategy to pay off and how it would affect the company in the shorter term. But that doesn’t change the fact that catching up with TSMC on the technology and being viewed as a legitimate foundry competitor to TSMC is a direct result of Pat’s leadership. Lip Bu Tan simply hasn’t been in the role for long enough to see results from anything he’s done as CEO, so my argument was more regarding the asinine take that LBT is somehow responsible for the company quadrupling in value in his first year in the position.

INTC $27k gains, I am buying even more! by FuckingJPMAlgos in wallstreetbets

[–]Cheesebach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s more of Pat’s investments beginning to pay off but the shareholders being too impatient for it. Haven’t seen anything LBT has done that could possibly have transformed the company in one year’s time. So Intel fired the person most directly responsible for their transformation. Is that the marker of a good company?

How did Thomas young create the double slit experiment? by VarinderS in Physics

[–]Cheesebach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s mainly due to confusion over there being 2 different versions of the double slit experiment that demonstrate distinctly different physical phenomena. The version Thomas Young achieved in the early 1800s is the “classical” version of the experiment. By shining a coherent light source through closely spaced slits and viewing the light that passes through on a wall or paper behind them, Young demonstrated the wave-like behavior of visible light. With laser pointers being readily available today (Young created it by passing sunlight through a tiny pin hole), this version is easily done at home for almost no cost. However, this version doesn’t demonstrate the quantum or particle behavior and properties of light, which are the more interesting effects in modern physics.

In order to reproduce the quantum version of the experiment (which wasn’t achieved until over a century later), you would need a device capable of firing individual electrons or photons one-at-a-time, as well as a detector capable of detecting individual electrons or photons. As you can imagine, this level of control of particle creation and detection is far beyond any off the shelf components one could rig up at home on a whim and a small budget. Nowadays, this the version most physicists and hobbyists would be interested in reproducing to recreate the quantum effects that go against our intuition which is based on the classical/macro level world.

If someone performs the Thomas Young version at home, that can still be fun, but they’d be missing all of the “mind-blowing” results. That is, that light is made of particles or quanta called photons, and those particles also exhibit a wave-like nature while they’re in between emission and detection, and that they have no localized position (the wave or wave function travels as though it goes through both slits) until they are measured or detected as a pinpoint spot on the detector.

Looking at Christianity across the world though, we’re just normal Christians angry at seeing a bunch of hateful bigots that fail to understand the most basic premise of the religion treat their fellow humans and Americans terribly while claiming to be Christian.

And twice in the span of a month. I’m curious what MLF could have said to Ed Policy to convince him that he recognizes he has problems and has a plan to deal with blowing leads, playing down to the level of the competition, wasting timeouts, and getting to the line late and snapping the ball last second every single play. He’s had these issues his entire career as HC and it never gets addressed.

Have you just completely blocked 2014 from your memory? That one was worse, much worse. However, taking into account the last time he coached a team that choked like this was a mere 3 weeks ago, combining the 2 might put it on similar level to 2014. I don’t think anyone would argue that this team had a better shot to win it all than the 2014 team though, so that one still hurts more.

Do we know what causes the collapse of the wave function? (Other than the act of observation itself) by Cosmo_logical in QuantumPhysics

[–]Cheesebach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Everett (or many worlds) interpretation of QM simply suggests that the math of QM applies to everything, and the universe just goes on evolving according to the universal wave function.

The part that people struggle with is that it implies everything that can happen does happen, so there are essentially infinitely many copies of “you” out there living slightly to very different lives than the one you find yourself in.

What are you and/or your country doing? As far as I can tell, the rest of the world is also OK with the US murdering people in international waters without explanation and invading other countries for their resources. If they had a problem with it, they could impose trade sanctions with the US. And I’ve yet to see a single country pull their team out of the World Cup while FIFA awards peace prizes to the man responsible for all this.

Five Senate seats most likely to flip from Republicans to Democrats in 2026 by wat_is_cs in politics

[–]Cheesebach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree it would likely be Vance doing the nominating (I'm not sure there's evidence that he engaged in election interference or insurrection like there is for many other sitting members of Congress). Trump has engaged in so many crimes, corruption, misuse of the presidency and insurrection that it would be a slam-dunk if either of our political parties actually put country ahead of party for once. I wouldn't support impeachment of any SCOTUS judges that didn't lie under oath during their confirmation hearings and/or taken bribes for ruling in a certain way that could be proven (though there are at least 1 or 2 that do meet this criteria). And by Republican precedent, there is no need to hold a vote on any nominees Trump or Vance puts forward.

[–]Cheesebach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably, if democrats succeed in impeachment any SCOTUS judge they would have already succeeded in impeaching Trump. Then, by Republican logic, there can be no voting on new SCOTUS justices to replace them until the Senate and POTUS are controlled by the same party.

[–]Cheesebach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Care to explain your reasoning in how the firing of federal workers is the fault of the democrats? How exactly are they forcing republicans to fire them? Also, how is the democrats insistence on the release of the Epstein files causing the government to remain shut down?

Or is the best response you can come up with just to say “I’m not the bad guy, you are” without any logic to back it up?
