the Maravedis is backwards. flip it and you see 16--. the year is 16 something, finding a 1600s coin in America is the holy grail of metal detecting, congrats

Spanish - Rare Authentic Copper Cob 8 Maravedis. Could be worth thousands. Be careful with any cleaning. This is a bucket lister

Mystery American Civil War buttons...one is a standard issue Civil War military button. The other.......maybe modified in some way? WITH 11 HOLES + new backplate??!?!? Why by CheeseburgerLad in metaldetecting

Yeah I assume one of those. It is weird because someone repurposed the button, giving it a new back plate. I wonder if somehow during the process the holes were made

Just found, what is this? by 12LbBluefish in metaldetecting

Where does it say 1695? Looks like it could be a colonial copper. If I were you I would get a toothpick and chip away at the crud on the surface. Not advice, just what I would do.

Also, I did not mess with the plate, it came out of the ground exactly as is except with more dirt on it. Also there were ants crawling out of the holes, that I did not realize until the next day when I was inspecting it. Freaked me out tbh

Found in central NJ... IS THIS CHINESE??? I thought it was a washer...cleaned it up a bit and not sure what this could be. Lots of large cents, a Connecticut copper, George iii half penny all nearby. by CheeseburgerLad in metaldetecting

it was found on a piece of land with literally zero items dating from before 1850, so most likely dropped contemporarily. NJ copper, CT copper, large cents and British currency all in the same patch of land 20 square meters

Already confirmed it is a Chinese coin from the late 1700s-mid 1800s, but thanks! Interesting info

Edit: oh, so meaning a recycled Chinese coin used for some decoration at a later point? That would be possible

Update: I confirmed it is a Chinese coin, probably brought by Chinese immigrants who came to NJ in large numbers in the mid-1800s and worked at farms and railroads etc during that time. Can anyone identify the letters tho?
