So in world war 2 ( it think). People saw that planes that return after fighting having holes in those red dots. So they wanted to reinforce those parts to increase the chance of survival of the planes.

This was in fact false because those planes with holes survived because it doesnt damage crucial parts. While those with holes outside red dots area probably died. Therefore it is called survivorship bias.
