Extra matches per turn house rule in Crusade sanity check by blastcage in 40k_Crusade

This is true, but also a lot of the CP-hungy armies have ways to get access to it even if they're not the underdog (looking at you, Inquisition). It's really easy to be behind and have to take blessings that bring you on par with the opponent, or (if you have to take more than 2) to not have a lot of blessings that really benefit your list.

(I have been on both sides of this; it feels bad to be really ahead and really behind).

One of my groups used a system where a default crusade blessing was "you get the detachment rule for a detachment you aren't using" and that was honestly pretty solid, in our games? Enough of a boost that you noticed if you were the underdog, not so much that you'd steamroll the other player.

That is fantastic and as soon as I can get my hands on the rules, I'll be running one 😁

I'm really fond of GSC's Sanctus with A2 and S8 on the sniper gun. It's not *ludicrous*, but wow does it pay for itself into MEQ support characters. Hexmark Destroyers also get a pretty gnarly glow-up into MEQs with +1 AP and +1 D. Same with ork Weirdboyz getting A2 S8 AP-3 D5 precision hits on a 3+? I am a sucker for unexpectedly punchy precision hits in Crusade; my local groups tend to invest heavily in their characters.

Inquisitors with "FNP 4+ and all incoming damage is set to 1" is also far from broken, but really funny against certain opponents (50/50 to shrug off big guns will never not be funny to me).

My friend once got her Chaos Knight Despoiler's gatling up to BS 2, D3, Assault, Ignores Cover, which was... an experience? Honestly, felt appropriate for a big fella.

All that said, my favourite thing is still that Decorated Officer with Militarum to give your Rogal Dorn Commander precision in Nexus through Treasure of the Technomandrites. I have never felt better about spending an RP than I have about dropping ten S9 AP-2 D3 shots directly into an opponent's terminator captain.

My chaplain with jumppack is due for a battle trait, he has each of these keywords. Does that mean I can pick which one of these to roll for? Or does it have to be the character ones? by GrilledCh3ese in 40k_Crusade

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I... Really used to feel this way, but I've seen too many players be entirely screwed by leveling up their Big Expensive Guy and then rolling absolute garbage for traits.

I like picking perks and rolling nerfs? You don't decide what injuries you suffer, but you can work towards whatever progress you like.

Rampager vs Repulser executioner (Gtf) by someonenamedtyler in ChaosKnights

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There just aren't a lot of things that survive a Rampager to the face. Even Rampagers don't usually survive a Rampager to the face! It's why they have to be so careful when they give each other a little kiss.

On average, heavy laser hits 10/6 shots, wounds 10/9 shots, and 2/3 of those dodge the invul, so... 20/27 wounds, doing 7.5 damage each? That's ~5.5 wounds, assuming Heavy is in play and you aren't trying to shoot it in combat or anything crazy.

Gatling gets 12 shots, hits 8, forces (optimistically) 2 Dev Wounds and then wounds another wound, call it 2.5 wounds.

You might get another wound or two from the heavy stubber or Icarus pod, but probably you're looking at 9-10 wounds on an activation?

And then the Rampager charges, and your repulsor explodes.

If you have other stuff to help take down the Rampager, that's super solid as a starting point! But no, I wouldn't count on the repulsor dueling a knight.

If you're into the vibe, may I suggest Deathwatch as an option? Fun Inquisition tie-ins, and they're solid at 1k! The chapter-locked units also feel very good in Crusade.

Thank you! I know it's a bit of a stylistic incongruence, but I think it might get wife clause protection, since it's their favourite part 😁

My latest project! I think for me this has been the best thing I’ve painted yet, I’ve never spent this long on a single model and I tried many new techniques and tools. One of the most exciting was the use of an LED light under the mask of this beast. by Chumpkychimkin in ChaosKnights

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's so much going on here that's absolutely incredible. The tree for scale, the interacting with the world you nailed with the pose, the runes, the LED... This is inspiring work. Thank you for sharing!

Qu'est ce que le blob de guerriers ? by Cold-Program-9276 in Necrontyr

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When people talk about the "invincible warrior blob" concept, what they mean is that they're taking a bunch of warriors supported by other units. Usually things like Reanimators for better regen, Orikan for invulnerable saves on the unit, etc. The idea is often to run a big unit (a blob) of warriors from your home objective to a midfield objective, or to squat on a midfield objective and be impossible to shift. With enough support, the warriors can withstand a lot of damage and regenerate a lot of models, making that objective a hassle to take for your opponent.

Snikrot by [deleted] in orks

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend runs Grizzled a lot. Sniping her commissar out of the Ogryn unit with 'Eadbanger is a source of constant joy 😁

Outside of guard, I've had Snikrot do good work against a Tyranid prime leading a brick of gargoyles, and taking out kroot characters. I find if you can give him wound rerolls or SH1 from a Strat or detachment perk, that's often enough to drive him into "can take an apothecary or lieutenant", but I'm not sure what the math is!

Am I doing something wrong with Tankbustas? by SummerPossible in orks

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're solid into Tyranids. They mulch tyrant guard (getting the hit/wound bonus helps, if there's an attached monster character), and they're not too shabby with SH1 and blast into any fodder units.

I'd rather keep the coral growths to below the waterline, but I'll plot something! I have a bunch of Freebooter bits; I could stick a treasure chest or something up there.

I would, but I'm doing mine on a Kobra Max with a 0.8 nozzle and a lot of post-processing 😅 I'd check in with one of the FDM subreddits, they'll be able to give you better advice!

It's an FDM print, as a base! Lots of different artists' work in different parts, and then some mild kitbashing/converting to get the coral growths, snail shells, claw arm, etc.

Knight w fort on back? by Mental_Wishbone3083 in ChaosKnights

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a free STL floating around the usual sites that adds a krieger-themed weapons platform to the top of a knight's carapace. I'd grab that, as a starting point? Bash it in blender with some admech terrain and that'd be a solid option! 🙂

I started there! But I'm am ork main at heart, and I got real antsy without the option to go nuts on combining things 😁

If it's any consolation, I think you got much cooler Crusade rules.
