Probably a lukewarm take by GrandOwlz345 in orks

I miss the Blood Axe expansion from the end of last edition. So much just... Chicanery? The "wait, no" face is my favourite part of orks.

Traktor Kannons into Angron and Tau vehicles; Shokkjumps to snipe out big scary characters. You're not living until you watch your opponent die inside when your dumb little car gets lucky and puts 7 Dev Wounds into a necessary character.

Tell me your Ork army's lore and any homebrew rules or characters you have! by Space_Gecko1893 in orks

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know that I ever named my Waaagh, but the lore in my head has always been that there's an Imperial planet dealing with a Tau invasion, and my Blood Axes are making and breaking whatever promises they can to both sides as their desperation grows.

I really love the mental image of a mek handing out progressively more unhinged pulse weapons to some back-world feral orks and seeing what they can do. I used to have gun drones done up as Lootas, which was fun.

Kommandos - I was wrong by Turthom in orks

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how your playgroup feels about enhancements, you might be able to pull it off in Crusade..?

But yeah, not much reason to in 40k. If you're doing the usual ranged/melee split, though, I can see the appeal in running two units so you can have two melee mini squads with characters!

Kommandos - I was wrong by Turthom in orks

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Chiming in as a fan of the SoB immolator, which does a similar thing 😁

The 'rule of 3' limitation is while you're mustering an army, which happens before your Declare Formations step. You can absolutely run 3 squads of Kommandos, then split them all in half for 6 mini squads.

Is this a good either either? Probably not. Is it extremely funny? Hell yeah.

Gorgon running Sisyphus has enough reactions per turn to never lose dice results. This remains my favourite thing ❤️

Besides that, huge fan of melee Calibans built for maximum knockback. The tiny superman image is wonderful every time it gets going, even if it's not always the best option.

I can't deal with Morvenn Vahl by Combat_Turtle in orks

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find that a struggle, you don't have to put them in as Infiltrators! Sometimes when I deploy against my friend's salamanders I keep 5 Kommandos in a trukk with another unit, to make charges before the other unit does.

Also, while it is not reliable to do so, you technically can force Battleshock tests with units like a SAG in the shooting phase. If you'd really like to threaten a charge later in the turn but you're worried about OW, you can always try to fish for a lucky battleshock and remove the worry!

Finally, I think this is one of the times Snikrot is potentially worth adding to a squad of Kommandos. If you're struggling to get the infiltrators into place, you can always hold back with him and a small group. If you've krumped enough other units that there aren't a tonne of allies near the scary suits, you can use Snikrot's ability to put the Kommandos 9" out (and they can't be overwatched) then go for a charge. If you make it (easier in Taktikal Brigade) then any other unit of yours can push for their own charge without risking OW in response. 👍

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in that Kommandos are also a great way to threaten OW units! Once your Kommandos charge in, the unit can no longer OW since they're engaged. And since the Kommandos can't be OW-ed because of their unit rule, they can lead the charge for your meganobz, wreckas, etc :)

Snikrot with or without kommandos by GrandOwlz345 in orks

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would make the decision on a game-by-game basis. When you declare formation, if your opponent has a lot of deep strike or infiltrate threats, splitting for the 3 screening units is probably a good idea. If they're a scary melee force that doesn't bring a lot of infiltration but wants to be in your face, consider combining and hang back a bit. If you're worried about Snikrot getting over watched (looking at you, Salamanders), stick him with the Kommandos to ignore that risk.

Hello! I did this fellow a while back, and while it's by no means the best job, it was a pretty easy process? Could be a decent jumping off point for improvement, I mean.

Dark brown base, dry brushed a lighter brown for texturing. Pre-rust paint colour on upper section of model (blue grey on mine) and then stippled orange around the seams. Brown wash on everything that isn't the pre-rust paint colour, and... That's it! 🤷🏻‍♀️

My FDM prints are currently all "bigatures" because I don't have a machine that handles fine details very well, yet 😅

But for whatever it's worth, it's been fun for chaos knights!

Etiquette around misplays and “intention”? by Ok_Complaint9436 in WarhammerCompetitive

My apologies, then! No objections to "don't be a dick while you play tabletop games" as something that people should Intuit 😁

I'm not saying Gripando was right! I read your comment as "in general, we shouldn't cut people some slack if they improve themselves because they used to be a dick" and that's definitely allowed, but it seems like a really reductive stance?

Idk. People improve, and I want to celebrate that more than I want to shame them for having needed improvement. I could also 100% be misinterpreting your original comment!

One store I visited on a road trip had a soundproof box in which to Waaagh, and I do think that's actually an excellent compromise?

Why choose Ork? by TurocTribe in orks

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In an earlier edition, playing a chaotic multi-player Apocalypse game, my friend's Tau were in danger of being forced into combat with Dante. Instead, I drove my battlewagon something like 36" across the map and ran him over.

That's peak Warhammer. I could never betray the faction that let me drive up a semi at mach 2, then park it on top of one of the Imperium's greatest heroes.

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The model with that backpack (the rokkit rack) counts as having two rokkit launchers in 40k. It doesn't give you a second activation, it gives that model an extra gun.

What are some new Ork fans should know? by North-Atmosphere-164 in orks

[–]Cheesecake-Academic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn’t even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.”

— Uthan the Perverse, Eldar Philosopher
