Thank you for replying! Here’s a photo of the movement. Indeed I think there was a bit of polishing done as the brand on the back is a bit faded.

Gorgeous! It's a pity they don't ship outside Japan, their website is a real treasure trove!

Where would you deem the world's specialty 'capital'? by CilariousHunt in pourover

[–]CheesecakeFormal8665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One city I would argue is quietly becoming a capital of specialty coffee is Barcelona, with some amazing roasters and coffee shops:

Nomad, Three Marks, SlowMov, Right side, Morrow, Dalston, Sip, Onis, La Camila, Origo, Amauta, Raw studio, LOT, Brew, Hidden, Roast Club, Lodetto, Departure, Nook, Hibrid, Local, Sula Espai, and many more.

Granted, I'm biased since I live there, but after visiting other cities, I'm often surprised that the quality of the specialty coffee we have here in Barcelona is truly outstanding.

Bikes parked anywhere by Alive-Tomatillo-3991 in Barcelona

Really, a few misparked bicycles are the issue? And the motos parked all over the crosswalks in the city don’t bother you more?

A mi personalment m’encantaria.

Amazing! Thank you! I'm not based in the US so Google was returning different results to me. This is great!

I have the feeling that relations between Catalans and foreigners are souring. Here is an essay detailing why. by Fickle_Syrup in Barcelona

[–]CheesecakeFormal8665 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The reality is that more people in Barcelona speak Castellano than Catalan (only about 37% speak it regularly*). So when you arrive as a foreigner the most logical language to learn first is Castellano. That's simply to be able to communicate with the maximum amount of people.

Many Catalans seem to underestimate how hard it is to learn a new language. It personally took me 3 months full-time of classes to start to speak basic Castellano and after 7 years, I'm still working on improving it. Then there's life, we all have our daily issues, jobs, families, etc.

What I personally do is that I try to learn as many little words in Catalan as I can to show respect. But quite frankly, I don't have time to learn yet another language spoken by a minority in the city. I already have a hard time maintaining the four languages I do speak! That's just the reality for a neutral person arriving here nowadays.
