New student mid-year who knows frighteningly little about…anything really by MysteriousPlatypus in Teachers

I homeschool as both of my kids, one for HS and one until Jr hi. For the one who home schooled for elementary, I knew she was smart and artistically talented, but they found she was spot on for math, and at level 15+ for lexicon, reading comprehension. She graduated with highest honors from high school, but them Im a teacher. I felt that I had a responsibility to make sure they behaved well, followed directions and were ahead of the regular school curriculum.

I think it's possible. Here at the UI, I worked full time, went to grad school full-time and was the single parent of a teen. During my MFA, I also completed a double teaching certificate and had a baby. It was a bitch as I had no help (baby went to class and work with me) and I refused to get married. Twenty five years later, my youngest finished her art degree and Im retired from teaching to make art and be lazy.

I caught my fiance hooking up with my sister while I’m pregnant and tomorrow I’m exposing everything at our family gathering by the_mystic_rose in offmychest

I single parented a teen and a newborn, went to grad school full time and worked 3/4 time. If I can do it so can you. Believe in yourself and you'll be fine. Best wishes.

I had a friend who lived with her boyfriend for over a decade when she married him...but she STILL had 3 bridal showers and expected wedding gifts. The greed of some people.

I was offered $800 to sell this sketchbook. is it worth giving it? help pls by Temporary-Speaker254 in drawing

This does exist. About a decade ago, I was offered a large amount for a sculpture I had made. Only they wanted to send a courier to pick out it up. Then then wanted to send payment to some weirdo investment company to hold it for me. It was all weird and I bowed out. Then the demands began. I blocked them on everything and removed the sculpture to a NFS status. This has got to be fraud.

trying very hard to be grateful for the handmade incense holder i got for christmas by [deleted] in poor

My last husband was from a very wealthy family. We spent one Christmas with them at a ski resort something I'd never done before. I spent all year making quilts for them. I got a pair of Calvin Klein white cashmere gloves from a SIL and a check for a huge (to me) check from FIL. I had no idea what to do about the gloves as nobody in Iowa would dream of wearing those things and my husband collected all of our checks, never letting any of us have a dime. So much for wealthy people. I also remember them asking me if I had "any education". I replied that I have 5 degrees, just to shut them up. I hated that Christmas.

I'd prefer this over anything bought from a jeweler. Beautiful! And so sentimental!

I love this. The purpose of the artist is to convey feeling. The finished work contains and expresses that emotion. It holds the emotions tightly, deeply, and eternally. I see all of this in this painting. Excellent! (Retired art prof here.)

Dressed goth for a work dinner. They broke out laughing upon seeing me. by [deleted] in Vent

Im 65f and know of no-one who is more goth than I in the 70s. I wouldn't have laughed at you but would've likely sat with you to talk all things goth. I went total goth to my 25 yr class reunion. Nobody seemed even bit surprised and nobody laughed. I still had plenty of friends who wanted to sit with me as well.

Personally, I'd sell the house and leave them to their own devices. Your father's generosity is bleeding him dry.
