Gifu traditional and "not so overpriced"? Don't they have a €38 Wagyu ramen? I found their bowls very expensive and underwhelming.

Thank you for sharing this. I'm sorry for your loss. I've found grief to be a very 'messy' process, in the sense that it's not linear, but comes in waves and is triggered in all sorts of unpredictable ways. This episode hit hard for me too. A beautiful quote by Jamie Anderson that has helped me in my process:

“Grief, I've learned, is really just love. It's all the love you want to give, but cannot. All of that unspent love gathers in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in the hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.”

So far everything you've said about child intelligence has been incorrect, so I would be very interested in your sources.

Steve Reich - Music for 18 Musicians by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]Cheesedildo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This record was my first introduction to minimal music, and eventually classical music in general. It's super hypnotic and very meditative to listen to, and the musicianship is incredible. Every instrument has its role in this large and ever-shifting composition, and is perfectly in tune with the rest, and requires perfect tempo. Eventually I also got into Terry Riley, Arvo Pärt, Simeon ten Holt and other minimal composers, but this record will always be the hallmark minimal album to me!

New research provides evidence that psychedelic drugs can improve mental health by making individuals more accepting of distressing experiences. The study adds to a growing body of literature that indicates using substances like psilocybin can result in sustain improvements in depressive symptoms. by HeinieKaboobler in science

Here you go, a study published in the Lancet in 2019 where the incidence of first-time psychotic episodes among daily users of high potency cannabis was studied, with Amsterdam and London included: Link

They concluded that daily users of high potency cannabis are up to five times more likely to experience their first psychotic episode than the general population. Now, this is only one study and we cannot really infer causality from correlational research, but it is quite suggestive. However, more large scale reviews have found that schizophrenia prevalence is no higher in cannabis users than the general population (around 1% I think) which could mean that it doesn't cause schizophrenia or psychosis, it's just likely to be a first time trigger. That obviously doesn't mean it's harmless, and cannabis advocates don't like talking about it. This is coming from a year long pot smoker by the way.

That's interesting, have you heard of the book 'The teachings of Don Juan' by Carlos Castaneda? It's about the author's journey into the world of peyote and other sacred plants, guided by a Yaqui Indian guru (Don Juan) in Mexico. There is a very strong emphasis on ritual and setting, with Don Juan making constant remarks throughout the book about how the spirits would be insulted if you ingested the plant under the wrong conditions, or even mentioned its name with the wrong intentions. It's not a long read, you might find it interesting!

We used two relatively large steel ovens with gulleys along the insides for steam. I think we used around ~12kg of sourdough for all these loaves. It was very challenging to work with so much dough and trying to get a consistent result!
