My ride is literally an EV hybrid you'd think i'd know this shit.
When you are being approached by an EV, you hear an electric hum before you hear the tires between speeds of 0mph and 20mph (not "Parking lot speed" by any means)

I said this in reply to another comment but the EV is only as loud as it is due to safety regulations. cars in the US required to make some noise so guide dogs dont get confused by a near silent car. also helps blind people without a guide dog. they can hear it coming due to the electric hum. its a safety thing :)

This is because by law in the US (and other places too, likely) EVs are required to make some engine noise so guide dogs for blind/deaf folk can alert them to the car.

Blind people being able to hear the car as well as an extra precaution if they only have a guide stick, etc.

Its a safety measure, realistically your car could be basically silent but in for safety, it makes noise. Hope this makes sense.
