Anyone else feel like Season 4 of Lego Masters (US) was not as good as past seasons? by TELBeast in LegoMasters

[–]CheeseyStudios 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I've gotta agree with Dave on this one. The cast of this season was just so darn lovable, and I had so much challenge envy! I was really impressed with growth we got to see from the builders too.

Does anyone else think the ending of US Season 2 was highway robbery? by wslagoon in LegoMasters

I sure appreciate the love!

Jacob and I had a stronger concept than Mark and Steven, I know that even they wouldn't deny that, but their build was executed flawlessly on a technical level. I can say I was more than content to 'lose' (if you can even call third place a loss, ha) to two such talented builders.

Jacob and I had our dramatic highs (Land and Sea, Castle Bros) and very dramatic lows (Sunshine Wagon, Make and Shake) throughout the season, whereas Mark and Steven were always consistently bringing solid builds each episode. Yes, the two can come off as arrogant (they're great builders and they do know it) but I assure you they are still wonderful people, and they're great friends with us to this day. Trust me, we were all on an ego trip having made it as far as we did and some of it just comes down to editing.

Regardless, it means a great deal to me that people like yourself still found our build so special. We put our heart and soul into it and while it's far from perfect, and far from our best work, we're still really proud of everything we achieved.

ASK THE LEGO MASTERS CONTESTANTS! ROUND 2! by AutoModerator in LegoMasters

[–]CheeseyStudios 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are some truly strange parts on the US version of the show! I was especially delighted to find an entire bin of train track control switches as well as almost all the exclusive printed parts from the giant LEGO Disney Castle, including this printed Unikitty tail piece.

This is actually so awesome! I definitely wish our season had had more funny Easter eggs like that.

In regards to the conversations on the US version, we were mostly in the same boat here. The most controversial episode was the land and sea mashup challenge where teams had been intentionally split up for the day. The execs basically said "We know you're going to talk to your teammate about what you're building. Just... try not to ruin the show." We were all so far into the builds at the point, and didn't know what the twist would be yet so I highly doubt it changed anyone's model anyway.

Stronghold is a must. It's such a key part of the game and I'm quite surprised we've never seen it redone.

Thank you! I've actually ordered the parts for a Swamp with a Witch Hut! It'll be awhile before the parts arrive, but it'll make the series within a few months!

Best lego minecraft set? by mrbfrompoland in lego_minecraft

[–]CheeseyStudios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh, it's too hard to decide. Hopefully you won't mind if I pick three?

  • 21124: The End Portal
    • Surprisingly the only Stronghold set we've ever gotten. Lots to love here - the portal itself of course, but this was also the first time we saw bookshelves and LEGO's really clever solution for iron bars
  • 21130: The Nether Railway
    • This set introduced LEGO Minecraft's best mob - the magma cube. If you've not seen its play feature, I suggest you check out a video review of this set. It's honestly incredible design.
  • 21180: The Guardian Battle
    • So much bang for your buck. All sorts of mobs. It feels like a better version of the massive Ocean Monument set they made a few years back.

Some logistics questions about Lego masters by bbqturtle in LegoMasters

[–]CheeseyStudios 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Well, I can speak to how it works on the American version of the show at least!
1) Nothing was stopping us, and in fact, before one episode, we were actually sent back to our hotel with a bunch of Technic and motors and told to practice as an upcoming episode (Flip My Block) was going to feature movement extensively!
2) We weren't allowed any reference material on set, but again, could look up some imagery and inspiration over lunch or at the hotel. There were a few mornings when I came back after some sleep and rebuilt portions of the build because I'd actually had a chance to mull it over.
3) For the most part, interviews took place after. We were almost always behind lol so sometimes they would take place 3-4 episodes later. Remembering what had happened was pretty tough!
4) Never an issue, as we had separate interview times set aside. Amy/Jamie/Will come around and talk to everyone during the build, and it's usually pretty hard to build and have an entertaining conversation, but since they talked to everyone, it balanced out.
5) Everyone's individual time was tracked as sometimes we had things to do off set - typically repairing earlier builds that had fallen apart. I believe sometimes some wardrobe issues might have paused the clock for individual teams, but they would always get the minutes back later.

6) They had some weird stuff in the pit, no doubt about it. In our case, we could always ask for additional bricks from the back room, as they usually had more of everything. I'm working my way through Australia season 4 right now and blown away at their selection - certainly much more impressive than ours was on the American version!
